The Daily Malice recommends that Brits emigrate to the EU.
‘Unfortunately, we’ve made it much more difficult for you to move to France, Sweden and Italy, and Australia will be on fire by 2030 because we don’t believe in climate change. Still, you clicked on the article, didn’t you.’

Speaking as someone who will be spending some time in France soon, merci beaucoup, mes amis!

Took @tkingfisher.com and @productivityalchemy.com to the train station, where we also met @cherylmorgan.bsky.social again. The adventuring party is reunited for this trip! Yay! I will miss them all, until we meet again. Till then, there is the internet!

No, I have no idea. Clearly I am notorious. Also the Nazis are chasing me. Fortunately there is some chili close by. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Now at Sohwi for dinner. Tragically they are out of reindeer.

Masquerade judging done. Now I have to write the speech. Tero has photos but he'll probably put them on Mastodon so I'll have to wait until I can grab them from there.

The lovely folks at Rosebud have lots of Ursula's books, including both US and UK covers of the Alex Easton books.

I have done my Arthur talk. Seemed to go down well. Audience size around 120. Now listening to Ursula talk about reimagining fairy stories.

Finncon is underway, and following Ipa's welcoming address we are getting a lecture on the formation of transuranic elements through the r-process (rapid capture of neutrons).

OK, time for some Harald photos. It is a very "authentic" Viking restaurant. Longship, anyone?

Best piece of political commentary I have seen today
Unfortunately FPTP is like The One Ring of UK politics: whoever wins does a Boromir/Isildur and thinks "Maybe we shouldn't destroy it, maybe we should use its terrible power for good?"

Finncon 2024 is now well under way. I have been in the academic conference discussing papers on Atwood and Jemisin. Much food for thought. Got to recommend The Coral Bones, which I much prefer to Oryx & Crake.

Getting word that Larry the Chief Mouser of Downing Street has coasted to another peerless victory with no opposition and 100% of the vote, truly Britain’s greatest statesman
Avatar
I see that the constituency where I used to live still voted Tory. He did get < 50% of the vote this time, but even so glad to be away from there.

Blimey, I thought we might do it in Bristol Central. but not like this 🙂 BBC: The co-leader of the Green Party Carla Denyer wins with 24,539 votes - taking the seat from Labour. Thangam Debbonaire, second, with 14,132 votes - a 25.9% drop from the 2019 election.

Dude! Visited the Petäjävesi Old Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a wooden church from the 1700s that has not burned down. “All the others burned down, for one reason or another,” our guide informed us resignedly.

Apparently only 12 serving cabinet ministers have lost their seats in a General since the early 70s... Wondering if we could take down another 12 in one evening.
