Had the same thought. He previously promised to serve out another term in that seat if he was reelected, even if the Tories were in opposition. Losing the seat would make it even easier for him to head off to Santa Monica (which I suspect he would do anyway).

In fairness, he's out on his ear shortly after the Election anyway. If God forbid! they win he'll be stabbed in the back before you can say "reshuffle" and so losing his seat saves the public the cost of a by election. Win win
