As it gets increasingly harder and harder for us writer-types to reach new audiences, much less our existing audiences, I remind you that if you've read a book of ours (like, for me, BLACK RIVER ORCHARD) and liked it, it'd be swell if you left a review somewhere. That way we don't die in the abyss!

Why did I read that in this exact voice?

Hey Chuck, Do you have any specific sites that you would like us to review on? I mean I have a goodreads account, but are there other places I should be looking to boost you and Kevin and Delilah and Richard and all my favorite authors?

A good question! Amaz*n is probably the most effective, even if you didn't buy there -- GR, too, though obviously that site is showing its age. Storygraph, though they're pivoting to AI, ugggh. Even just posting on social media (here, Reddit, a blog) helps. And thank you for asking!

Just did one on 'zon for The Book of Accidents, which is a book I wasn't expecting to love so much, but truly did.

How about older books? I have read a book 2 weeks ago and since then yelling about it to everyone not fast enough to run away. But... the book is from 2016. Does it help the author if I gush about her eight year old English book here or on German Amazon?

It does! Absolutely. Backlist matters.

Yes! Absolutely. I miss tons of stuff as it goes by; knowing something still stands up is a great incentive to get it.

Confession: I almost never leave reviews because I have such a difficult time trying to explain why I liked said book. (I can go on and on about why I disliked a given book, but no one wants that.) And leaving a review that simply says "I liked it, it was good" feels pointless to me.

Still helpful. Some sites like Goodreads count numbers and stars. Also posting a brief review puts it into other readers feeds. They may be tempted to read (and review) books if recommended to them. If you can think of a friend who'd like a book, tag them in! I check common likes and read recs

I did leave a review somewhere on that one. I forget where (more of an occurrence these days). But let me repeat here. What a trip! Loved that damn book. Yesterday, I was eating an apple with my creamy tomato soup from Panera and I thought “hmm, Chuck would know which type this is”.

I want to leave more reviews but it gets disheartening when the places to do so are filled with 1 and 5 star reviews. Like stars 2-4 never existed.

Gonna pick up your Star Wars after I finish my current book. You think you will ever return to that galaxy? Also thank you for Cobb Vanth! Sexy Tim Olyphant did great portraying him
