Nice to see a Democrat not deciding on an outcome ahead of time and choosing not to act as a result. Just getting this stuff into the ether is important. AOC gets it.
Memo to anyone in that position again:
Gorsuch's seat could have been Merrick Garland, and Barrett's seat could have been whomever Obama chose if Ginsburg had stepped down at 83, in 2016. Then it would be 5/4 for a long time, and we'd be less scared of losing the whole shebang.
Grim, avoidable...
...and the only silver lining is that watching the hard right and big money operate is a reminder that you can actually get things done. So, at least we know it's possible to get things done.
Perhaps that wouldn't have worked, in which case we'd be 5/4 the other way. But it's a good reminder of the way one side plays hardball, dating back to the 2000 election at least.
