*taps sign*
This is one of the primary goals of "AI" these days: to create an empty chair that takes the blame for corporate misconduct. We didn't discriminate, the AI told us who to hire. We didn't wrongfully reject the health insurance claim, the AI told us to. And on and on.

Sure didn't stop them from trying to claim that the chatbot could take responsibility; hopefully this precedent deters that defense.

We must continue tapping the sign, for people apparently needs it

Interesting how the article moves into discussion on how to make the AI legal 🤦‍♂️ Check out this one from Ars Technica arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

Ars Technica sounds like it really wants to push for more chat bots and just add disclaimers, if that article is any indication. I miss when I could talk to actual people through those things. Heck, I'd settle for websites not trying to push me to chat with them via annoying popups and dings.

Why not render the upper management unnecessary? They threatened automation would take our jobs But in reality number crunchy munchy stuff is technically better left to machines I wanna see the CEO loosing their jobs
Avatar
the CEO's tools will never dismantle the CEO's house
Avatar
I beg to differ. What's the CEO's address again?
Avatar
That can be saved as a string variable in Python Mix a visual database of his photos and blend diy drone tech into the mix and you'll have something

C suite has decided they want a modern day sin eater.

Love this story: Air Canada's chatbot gives false advice on booking a bereavement ticket, guy gets screwed, then Air Canada then argues its chatbot is a SEPARATE LEGAL ENTITY FROM THEM THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS OWN ACTIONS. lol wut anyway they lost the case hardcore www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Full circle. That’s what max kennerly quoted in his post that i quoted

A corporation can't really be held liable in any kind effective way, so they shouldn't be making management decisions either. (But at least there are human beings, sort of, making their board decisions.)
Avatar
therefore, a company must never make a management decision
Avatar
I’m feeling this.

It's a corporate version of Bart Simpson planning to blame his misconduct on the new baby. "Baby did it"
This is a pretty compelling point
Avatar
I'll dig that picture up until i'm a hundred and fifty four years old. these sons of bitches will not be permitted to forget.
Avatar
Until A.I., McKinsey, et. al., was paid to shrug off the blame. What will they do now?
Avatar
except the person who controls the computer CAN be held responsible :3
Avatar
Avatar
this is also why self driving cars will never be a good idea.
Avatar
Judge, we at Air Canada couldn’t possibly be liable for the actions of AIr Canada.
Avatar
A CEO can never be held meaningfully accountable. Therefore a CEO must never make a meaningful management decision.
Avatar
same reason they have corporations owning other corporations which in turn own others... makes accountability very difficult

Too late.

Tell that to the Celeron I ran without a heatsink until it released the magic smoke.
Avatar
did the magic smoke lay you off to increase shareholder value?
Avatar
No but it did smell funny and the computer didn't turn on after that
Avatar
terrible. so insubordinate, lol. What was your next build, and how overboard did you go on cooling?

Oh god, that was a 300A I had pin modded to 600mhz. I think after that we had a 700mhz Athlon. It was around then that I discovered 92mm Delta fans from servers worked in my shitbox, even if your hearing and fingers were damaged.
Avatar
they figure that if they make the computering sound fancy enough, we'll all naïvely let them get away with their bias laundering
Avatar
Niether can presidents, apparently. Or Israel. Is Israel’s an AI country?
Avatar
Wait did you really put your newborn into the microwave? It's not our fault, you listened to our chatbot. honestly it looks like a bit of natural selection to me.
Avatar
A computer or an AI are meant to be a tool for humans to use. Corporations and political hacks only get away with what we let them get away with. At least while we still have a democracy and a representative government.
Avatar
I think computers could do a much better job of managing people for performance and engagement and motivation than so many "managers" -- so many quit (eventually) because of bad bosses. BOSS spelled backwards is self-explanatory. And very common. 🥵
