We were proud to join Riders Alliance today to build a #FastBusAve! Flatbush Avenue bus riders deserve better than 4 mph buses. We need safe streets, efficient buses, and reliable ways to get around New York City.

My colleagues counted cars to see how much congestion pricing might've made this morning (about $200,000) www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

“We Counted 22,252 Cars to See How Much Congestion Pricing Might Have Made This Morning - We then came up with a ballpark figure for how much the city might have generated in an hour at those toll points. The total? About $200k in tolls for that hour.” Gift-link: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
We Counted 22,252 Cars to See How Much Congestion Pricing Might Have Made This Morningwww.nytimes.com A year’s worth of tolls is hard to picture. But what about an hour’s worth?

a phased ramp-up of the congestion fee, to an eventual $15, with alternative funding sources to make up the deficit in the meantime, would be acceptable. implementable compromise is favorable to a drawn out court battle that stretches into a second Trump term where the pending program dies forever.

Kathy Hochul contains multitudes. A few weeks ago, she decided that what New York City needed more of was cars. Now that the nice folks at @transalt.org were kind enough to bring a whole bunch of them to her office, she has changed her tune and refused to accept them. What gives Kathy???
When Governor Hochul paused congestion pricing, she doomed us to a NYC overrun by cars. We tried to give her what she wants: more cars — and notes from constituents in need of clean air & accessible transit. We were shocked that her staff refused to accept their pleas for help.

On the day that congestion pricing should've started, there's a flash flood warning in Manhattan(from a rainstorm that was undoubtedly worsened by climate change) and the arsonist herself Kathy Hochul was marching around NYC in an MTA pride t-shirt. I'm sooo tired and it isn't even Monday yet.

NYC congestion pricing was supposed to go into effect today. Let's see what Governor Kathy Hochul -- who intervened to prevent the policy leaving a multi-billion dollar hole in the MTA's budget and canceling service improvements and needed station upgrades -- is up to. Oh. Oh no.

The toll so far from Kathy Hochul's #CongestionPricing reversal summed up in a single graphic, courtesy of @streetsblognyc.bsky.social. More cars on the road, more pollution in the air, more lives lost to traffic violence, more wasted time, less revenue. A dark day for NYC and the world.
All We've Lost: Congestion Pricing Should Have Started Today - Streetsblog New York Citynyc.streetsblog.org Let's take stock of what we've lost because the MTA's central business district cameras are not tolling drivers.

Central Park went car-free six years ago yesterday. People said it would never happen. People said it would never be a success. Now, it's impossible to imagine Central Park any other way. (Congestion pricing would follow a similar course, FYI)
At last, Central Park is permanently car-freeny.curbed.com New York City’s most popular park is now closed to vehicular traffic, except on a few crosstown thoroughfares.

Yesterday, the MTA Board made clear the repercussions of pausing congestion pricing. By creating a $15B hole in the agency's capital budget, the "pause" will cause a host of projects to be immediately paused. First, foremost, and by far the worst are ADA accessibility projects:

When Governor Hochul “paused” congestion pricing, she doomed New Yorkers to a city overrun by cars. Now, we're asking you to chip in $5 (or more) to help us deliver thousands of toy cars to her — with the news cameras watching. ➡️ act.transalt.org/a/cars-for-k...

It's the day after the MTA board meeting and our next steps are clear. 1. Call call call. Call the governor. Call your federal reps. Call your state reps. Call your council member. 2. Come on out to a rally, make some noise and meet likeminded people! Don't let #CongestionKathy get away with this!

again, only congestion pricing can fund much-needed signal upgrades, elevators, and subway extensions AND reduce crashes, improve air quality, and lead to less traffic. we need congestion pricing. tell the governor: (518) 474-8390

Angry and disappointed after today's MTA board meeting? I know I am! But it is important to not let our emotions get the best of us. It's old news that #CongestionPricing can't start without NYSDOT's signature. What was genuinely surprising today is how supportive the board is of congestion pricing.

As #CongestionKathy searches for a solution to the #CongestionPricing debacle, it is vital to remember that $1 billion of tolls a year is NOT the same as $1 billion from any other source, since the MTA will actually be able to raise $15 billion in bonds backed by the congestion pricing program.

"Krueger said she is only willing to consider proposals that achieve the same goals as congestion pricing: providing $15 billion to the MTA, reducing traffic in Manhattan, and reducing emissions." Congestion pricing is supposed to start on Sunday. The only thing in the way is our Gridlock Governor.

Glad that Albany's best minds are hard at work filling the hole left from Hochul's #CongestionPricing pause.
At the MTA Board meeting, Assembly Member David Weprin, in an extremely serious proposal to raise $15 billion for the MTA capital plan, suggested an "Adopt-A-Station or Adopt-A-Bus Stop program" just like how Citibank paid for naming rights at Citi Field before his Zoom feed cut out

There’s a group of kids on the corner selling lemonade. They yell “LEMONADE” at every passing vehicle, but the only people I have seen stop for a drink so far are on foot or bike. There is no shortage of free parking on the street. Maybe this is analogous to local business districts. 😉
