Thin Lizzy are the only band who are rad enough to have an actually serious, poignant song that has a part that goes “oh poor Romeo / sitting all on his own-e-o.” No other band could stick this landing

the cup snake thing at Wrigley is like seeing a buddy get super hammered - one time and it is like “OK a fun little story” each time after that is more and more annoying until it is a serious problem

While trying not to succumb to “perfect album” discourse, I will say I can’t think of anything I’d change about Scream Bloody Gore.

Just Intonation and Telecaster (Deluxe) advocates may be interested in my finally-assembled* Tele Deluxe partscaster, with a neck fretted in 24-to-the-2/1 just intonation. (Neck by Metatonal Music.) * It took me way longer than I anticipated to wire and assemble. But it exists.

in hockey, when you hate the home team, having the visiting team score an equalizer while the home goal is still being announced is so great. love it every time it happens. deflate that crowd. suck the joy out of them.

One of my favorite people on the planet remembers another. The latter’s contributions to music and discourse are well cataloged ; his acts of altruism and tremendous empathy, far less so. A day later, news of his passing still seems unreal.
I had no dearer friend than Steve Albini. I loved him. More critically he was an asset to the world he lived in. Generous, brilliant, weird. Got better with age. Left things in a much better spot than they would’ve been without him showing up. Zero chance this gap created by his death is ever filled
