You see a conference CFP announced w/a theme that weirdly makes sense w/your research. My research never "fits in" at this one in particular. For funsies, you check last year's (2024 isn't up yet). Advanced attendee registration fee: $750. Ah. I have many words.

Breaking news that should surprise nobody but infuriate us all: service work ion academic spaces is extremely gendered and massively undervalued (so women generally take on the burden) journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...

I talked for two hours about all things public libraries (including barriers, lack of diversity, accessibility issues, etc. Didn't want to sugarcoat it.). Not sure when the podcast will be released, but I'm not talking tonight! Maybe most of tomorrow morning too.

Readers' Advisory help: looking for authors similar to Kurt Vonnegut. Ideally, those who also write short stories, but general suggestions welcomed! I've read a fair amount of Vonnegut. Not a go-to author for me. Read none of his short stories. Ideas? #librarylife #librarians

Libraries around my state have been hit with bomb threats, and yet somehow neither our largest newspaper nor our substantial public radio service have seen fit to cover it. I wonder why. Protect libraries. Sending love and solidarity to my beloved librarians.

I tried to talk about it on here the other day but no one noticed. It should be a much bigger conversation than it is. This is a significant escalation, even if expected.

Yeah, I’m not going to be dragged into that library, playgrounds, unattended children mess of a discussion (?) on twitter. I don’t have the energy for fighting on the internet. Or see the point.

Comics folks — Can anyone recommend me a cool graphic novel about pilots or aviation in general? Bonus points if it’s not specifically or exclusively about military planes

I don't know if I can mentally go through another round of strategic planning for the school. Just smile on the outside and drift off mentally?

These random waves of exhaustion began early December. They haven't let up. Hopefully, I'm just overdoing. I don't want a new diagnosis and a new med to add to the collection.

Finishing up that book proposal which was due Dec. 30th. Deadlines can be subjective (especially when you create your own, b/c your brain needs the pressure of a deadline to function).

Trying to figure out what I'm experiencing since turning 40 a few weeks ago. It's not the cliched "mid life crisis", anger at being this age, or fear of aging. It's an odd, overwhelming feeling of anxiety and confusion towards the future, where I want to go from here. Anyone?

My cat has taught me a lot about this recently. She sits along the back of a sofa chair, faces the wall, and stares. No thinking. No work.
Rest includes COGNITIVE rest, too! Thinking is work. Writing is work. Covid is not “time to catch up on emails.” You need to let your brain rest.

Well, I tried a cleaning hack for cleaning my ceiling fans (from a trusted source). It was kinda exhausting and half worked(?). I need a rest now.
