when someone tries to redirect outrage at the IDF toward Hamas, it tends to read as disingenuous mostly because there is currently a very aggressive military campaign to eradicate Hamas. the anti-Hamas political project does not need any help.
the meta debate is always “are we insufficiently focused on the wrongdoing of Hamas?” You can argue that the left is if you’re looking at it in a vacuum, but we’re not operating in a vacuum.
In my experience this is mostly pushed by people who want to equate “we have to do *something* about Hamas” with “literally anything we do about Hamas is justified” which you may recognize as the same conflation trick they use to justify cruelty at the border
I'd probably also like to note that there's an attempt to simultaneously play up the military capabilities of Hamas (some that don't exist), with the lack of military codes of ethics (as opposed to the notably "moral" IDF). Lot of confusion about the "military-ness" of Hamas
I fully support cutting off all US military aid to both the IDF and Hamas. In the interests of brevity, I just usually don't bother mentioning the thing that isn't happening
the number of people who respond to "israel bad" with "what about hamas" who simultaneously post at various times "hamas bad" is really high on the internet right now.
“Don’t yell at [the US/Israel/colonial power] because [isis/hamas/whoever] are monsters” is a terrible argument for those hoisting themselves up on the moral pedestal. Hold yourselves to some fuckin standards or get yelled at.
Oh God, yes, those people. The liberals heavily supporting Ukraine are overwhelmingly Boomers and Gen Xers who have a lot more institutional power than Millennial and Zoomer Palestine supporters. I also see a racial disparity too. Ukraine has friends in higher places and don't need us!
Right, every powerful institution in the U.S. has condemned Russia and we are sending billions of dollars of weapons to Ukrain. College students have nothing to add to this and no way to influence Russian policy. It's just a bizarre non-argument.
