Getting increasingly pissed off by various politicians "distraught" today. This is America, where every day we wonder if this when someone we love gets mowed down by a shooter. Pretending to be shocked just shows you don't get it. Trump has a Secret Service detail to protect him. My kids don't.
There was a nightclub shooting last night in Birmingham, Alabama with 4 dead and 9 wounded. The fact that this happens *every day* and yet the politicians ignore it unless it's close to home is maddening.
If the Secret Service/police/sheriff couldn't protect Donald and the rally goers, how in the hell is my nephew's 6th grade teacher going to protect a room full of kids? He's autistic and after Uvalde told his Momma that if a shooter came, he would try and stay alive so she wouldn't be sad.
Stuff like this shakes up the elite thought leaders.
They look at their gated driveways and get the shivers as they contemplate the delicate balance between full-on greed and the breakdown of the system their money works in.
It is peculiar because no one in the world has any reason to shoot a child but there are an awful lot of reasons for people to want to shoot Trump or Vance or Thomas or Alito.
I'm not saying it's right, but I get it.
And Trump told us to just get over school shootings. I have no horror or empathy left for rightwing violence mongers finding out they're not immune from the gun culture they created.
100% this. My kids, now in their 20's and in college, have never known a school year without active shooter drills where they are taught -- "you're on your own against an AR-wielding shooter."
Yeah but your kids get to be traumatized every day with active shooter drills to prepare them. Fucking sickening, my sister teaches 3rd grade and every year my mom makes her new blackout curtains for her class for that reason
I found it awful that I was thinking it, but hearing the trump rally goers screaming I thought "what are you screaming for? You don't get to be scared, this is what you people chose for us and this is what we live with every day"
I saw the footage and the first thing out of my mouth when I heard the screaming was "ma'am, that's excessive." Which says a lot about the gun culture cultivated in this society, tbh

Their faux outrage about toning down rhetoric & this shouldn't be happening in America are failing on death ears here. This is a daily occurrence for those who can't afford a private security or in Trump's case a SS 24/7 detail. I'm always on guard now every time I grocery shop as CC exists here.
The *shock* is that there are no calls to regulate guns after this. I mean, seriously, we are an insane country if people cannot stand up and say, ENOUGH to the 2nd Amendment fanatics, NRA and gun manufacturers after an attempted shooting of a presidential candidate. In fact, we're fcked.

I feel like everyone is just going through the motions here. There are things that suggest this was faked. But even if it wasnt, I don't think there are very many people who sincerely love Trump as much as see him as a means to an end.
and even then, it already was. Never even mind our history of successful assassinations. Gabby Giffords? The attempt at Scalise and his colleagues? (In which case their protection did actually help, good for them, I guess. And nothing of value was learned, as Scalise is as rabidly pro gun as ever)

I marched with Dems in a July 4 parade a few dozen miles from Waukesha, WI this year.
Thought about the ways there was minimal security. Yes there were police around, but that provides little sense of safety in our violence-saturated national situation.
