I for one am glad the Cybertruck exists bc what other vehicle is out there providing nonstop hits like this
Avatar
Oh well of course that makes sense that the Cybertruck run delivered 3 months ago on the vehicle launched 8 months ago was one of the bad ones unlike all the other ones which are bad in different ways

It’s such complete trash. It would be hilarious if they weren’t out there menacing everyone else.

I'm so serious this guy is whining about $400 in wrap vinyl while driving around a $120k death trap

There’s so much to laugh at, from the insane steer-by-wire system to making the unstressed body out of stainless and the chassis out of cast aluminium. Bruh. Bruuuuuuuh
Avatar
If only we had a truism about not reinventing the wheel, and maybe even a slang term for dangerously small steering wheels
Avatar
a good steering wheel that does not fly off while you driving! i think its a good idea and i stand by.

Oh my god it's dash is worse than my new beetle's wrt pointless empty shelf like space.

I sort of do think all the auto makers want us to both kill and be killed at this point this screen shit is outrageous fucking subway surfer ADHD kid TikTok video ass cars

Bean counters: “Why make a nice tactile instrument panel you don’t have to look at to use when you can just fit a computer monitor” Elon: 😆👏👍 Fanboys: ❤️🥵 Actual drivers:

No I mean BEHIND it not the screen, like I don't think it probably registers if you haven't experienced throwing yourself over the dash of a car to attempt to clean the windshield, you might not notice what a bad design choice it is but it's one of my least favorite ones on the bug
Avatar
Like someone is gonna try and clean that windshield which probably needs a squeegee to reach and snap the flimsy screen right off. Or try to deliver pizzas with them sitting there and ending up flying everywhere maybe.
Avatar
Oh my god lmao it's so based that they invented a windshield u can't see out of AND a dashboard u can't even clean omgggg

Okay, but that's actually a pretty awesome term. If I were 16 that'd definitely make me want a smaller wheel.
Avatar
Considering how widely uninsurable the Crybertruck is you'd think it was just 16-yos driving it but no!

I'm sorry, but the fact that DOT hasn't specifically required default mechanical linkages for brakes and steering is a policy failure (along with every billionaire)
Avatar
Could be a case of “we never thought anyone would be so dumb as to not do this, or indeed to buy the wretched thing” But you’re right, it absolutely should
Avatar
I'm sure it was initially, but the fact that there has been no reaction tells me shit is broken.

It has a crazy all wheel steering system that moves the rear wheel the opposite direction of the front wheels at low speeds (in like parking lots) and then the same direction as the front wheels at highway speeds. No what in hell I’m trusting the Tesla computer with that.
Avatar
Honda did that with the Accord (iirc) in the late 80s but their system worked fairly well. It hasn’t been popular since then because nobody really wants it. It’s weird unless you’re used to all-wheel steer like you’d find on farm loaders and telehandlers.
Avatar
I ain't driving something with articulated steering on the damn highway either.
Avatar
These are commonly road registered 👍 But I trust JCB a lot more than Tesla.
Avatar
Only thing along those lines I've ever had on the street was a yard dog. (okay and maybe the occasional forklift)
Avatar
I think Audi did it too. There are ways to do it mechanically but I don’t see how you can do what Tesla is doing without drive by wire. Seeing as the whole car is wired with 48v cat 5 cables. That’s a huge nope from me.
Avatar
Looking at it, Audi now offer it on several models. It could offer small improvements in handling/roadholding/cornering with the benefit of much faster computer control than Honda had in the 80s, but it’s wasted on Audi drivers.
Avatar
Physical layout is important, ideally the rear steering module would be self contained and default to a safe setting if it got bad, missing or implausible readings from other sensors. I wonder if this has been considered.
Avatar
Avatar
No idea, but I sure as hell don’t trust Tesla to do it right. Just feel like a catastrophe waiting to happen.
Avatar
Avatar
I get the aerodynamic benefits of replacing side-view mirrors with cameras or other such optics, but yeah, it's just another complicated mechanism to fail. The fact that highway safety standards prevent this but not drive by wire tells me that the regulatory bodies have been broken.
Avatar
Is cast aluminum a metal composition which can be expected to withstand the load of a multi-ton vehicle, and the potential for catastrophic impact? I'm under a (potentially wrong!) impression that it's kind of brittle for those applications
Avatar
Correct, it’s not nearly as ductile as mild steel and if it bends, there’s very little chance of bending it back successfully. Any good impact will write off the frame.
