The real kicker being that it was a high school in the Netherlands.

The first time I heard Dutch I thought it sounded like someone trying to speak German through a mouthful of bread. Maar nu klinkt het lijkt een echte taal!

I have a decent grasp on German and listening to Dutch makes me feel like my brain is melting a bit. But Danish is the language that sounds made up to me.

Even the danes struggle to understand danish. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I haven't heard much Danish but now I'm curious.

My German teacher in HS was a wonderful Dutch woman who spoke five languages fluently. Come to think of it, I also took a year of French with her.

When I was leavinglearning German one teacher told me that Dutch is not a real language, it's just German spoken by someone with a throat disease.
