I grouse sometimes about the extent to which smart phones turned the internet into an external hard drive for my brain. For a decade the way I retain facts changed because I could search the world's knowledge instantly at any time. Losing that was scary, replacing it with misinformation is crazy.

I keep thinking about how the SCOTUS justices, who have proven they care a TON about their media coverage, issued the worst decision since Dredd Scott and then got to happily watch outlets spend the next week running 10,000 “Biden in Trouble” stories and like 5 “Hm, Immunity is Interesting” stories

8 policies that could be vulnerable to new legal challengeswapo.st The Supreme Court jettisoned longstanding precedent that helped the federal government make regulations. Now broad policies could be determined by judges.

reminded of a scene from Terry Pratchett's Going Postal
A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.

There are so many reasons to hate Jeff Bezos but what Amazon did to ComiXology is easily in my top 5
It is possible I will be angry about what Amazon did to Comixology for the rest of my life. I read and discover so, so much less without that incredible website to browse. The kindle store version isn’t even “we have comixology at home,” it’s “you don’t get to have comixology, eat a dick”

Voters just blame whoever is President for whatever happens during their Presidency, which is a major reason why allowing the situation where the Supreme Court absurdly gets to make policy across whatever issue they want to persist is so deadly to Democrats
Stuff like this makes me bananas “For Antinya Walker, 19, who says she will be voting in her first presidential election this fall…said she believed Biden was against women’s rights. She blamed him for tightened abortion restrictions across the country”
In deep-blue L.A., Democrats feel worried, betrayed, stoic about Biden's futurewww.latimes.com Democratic voters in deep-blue LA County debated whether Biden should remain the presidential nominee following his disastrous debate performance last week.

It’s like hmm…I wonder how a profoundly anti-intellectual culture that rewards people who bully, humiliate, assault, and punch down for laughs could end up with kids who act like dicks. We’ll never know!

Holy. Shit. They're literally saying Trump's felonies aren't that bad compared to the "real felonies". Bear in mind, they're ignoring J6 and "gimme 12000 votes" call and the stolen docs. We joke, but this is literally Newsmax copy.

Loving these quotes from Iranians explaining their vote. CC: Americans who think there’s little difference between Biden and Trump.
Whoa.

My guess is that Trump knows very little about P25 *and* it will be the blueprint for his administration. He’s famously bored by policy. He’ll appoint these people because they’re loyal. They’ll then go to work on the plan while he grifts, golfs, and gives two-hour speeches at rallies.
Trump: I don't know anything about Project 2025 Here is a list of all the Trump officials who authored the Project 2025 blueprint, Mandate for Leadership. 25 of 36 were part of the Trump administration. project2025istheocracy.substack.com/p/project-20...

an entire movement of wicked people who celebrate wickedness
As a side note, this is John McEntee, Trump's Director of White House Personnel and the primary architect of Project 2025. On Tik Tok he said he gives counterfeit bills to homeless people so they will be arrested when they go to spend them.

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

All of my targeted news stories from Google are currently about food recalls. I know this is reflection of algorithms rather than reality but man does it hit home how skewed people's sense of reality can get super quickly. Thank god I moved past all the articles about bedbugs though. 🥴

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

There are many things that infuriate me about the pundit class right now, but probably one of the top on my list: Project 2025 has posted their plans for every single federal department on their website. They have a training academy for prospective appointees. Where are the hard hitting op-eds?

This is also why this issue gets more ongoing attention than SCOTUS/immunity: it is unresolved and evolving, even if it is not as important. bsky.app/profile/mbkp...
The biggest issue with Biden coverage is that he’s now The Story, which means that most of the press is focused on The Story and not any of the context or consequences. If we were having a serious discussion about qualifications for presidency, age, and the two main candidates, I’d be fine with it.

Everyone watching any Bond movie: this is utterly unrealistic, no one would stand there and say exactly how they were going to do some awful thing, the Incredibles even made a joke about monologuing. Everyone experiencing reality: Oh. Oh, I see.

Congress and the Supreme Court numbers being unchanged for so long is truly mad given how much more populous the country is vs the 1920s and what, 1870s, respectively?
