last year I took a handheld photo of the full moon with my 3 year old Samsung S21+ on 30x zoom mode and it was TOO good I then learned Samsung had added some undocumented low level AI that, if it detected you were taking a picture of the moon, "improved" it with higher resolution stored imagery

I find it disturbing. Say you want to use a photo as evidence in a trial.AI modifies it, maybe to make the bank robber slimmer or more handsome, maybe to mask property damage to a building. Now it's not a faithful representation of realiity, shouldn't be used as evidence.

You can opt out of it in settings.

Try tapping on the moon to set it to let the phone know what's important, exposure-wise. Most phones these days have slider controls that pop up to increase/decrease exposure (that is, the shutter speed since phones have a fixed aperture).

My Galaxy S20+ was over 3 years old, so Verizon kept making me progressively better offer until it cost me $5 plus like $200 for all the accessory crap they get you for. But still, this is maybe the first time I have ever upgraded before a phone catastrophe

That's a bit of an investment for me since I really don't use my phone much except for a quick text here and there.

Yeah, I'm so used to mine being my alarm clock, appointment calendar, calculator, list pad, music player, camera and mobile posting station that I forget that just because it reduced the amount of crap I have to keep on me personally, not everyone needs all that 🙏
