I'm trying to learn more Sephardic dishes and Jewish foods from outside of Eastern Europe. If you've got non-Ashkenazi or dishes from outside the region you love please share them! I wanna broaden my experience of Jewish culture since we're from literally everywhere!
Tonight I'm making the Iraqi Jewish dish Tbeet, which I've never had before. But I just watched like 5 videos and each one was a *completely different* recipe so I figure I'll never actually eat Tbeet so much as I'll just taste its vibes.

If you don't know Claudia Roden's The Book of Jewish Food she is the GOAT of the Jewish food diaspora. It took her ten years and she wrote three other books just to fund it. A stupendous and tremendously enjoyable feat of heart and scholarship.

If you want to go from there and dive more deeply in to some more specific diaspora cuisines two of my favourites are Matzoh Ball Gumbo, which explores the history of Jewish food in the American South, and Portico: Cooking and Feasting in Rome's Jewish Kitchens

In addition to all the other recommendations, look at The New Mediterranean Jewish Table by Joyce Goldstein and Aromas of Aleppo by Poopa Dweck. Also there’s a group on FB called Sephardic Recipe Swap that you might like.

especially in NYC, or in Israel, I would highly recommend going to Sefardi/Mizrachi restaurants and grocery stores/appetizers to taste dishes, find the foods you like.

This is going to be a fun game of thinking back through many potlucks and trying to remember where came from what and whom.
