One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

I had a rough night, but I woke up at 4AM to find Strata had brought me her favorite toy and curled up against me. Such a sweetheart.
I tell her she’s pretty every day

If you don't know Claudia Roden's The Book of Jewish Food she is the GOAT of the Jewish food diaspora. It took her ten years and she wrote three other books just to fund it. A stupendous and tremendously enjoyable feat of heart and scholarship.

Since I never had kids, here is my family recipe for sweet lokshen kugel. If you want to make it the way I do, use dried cherries or blueberries instead of raisins and add cardamom to taste. I also made it with dried cranberries and nutmeg for Thanksgiving once. www.tumblr.com/atalantapend... 🍽️
But what's fun about this is that means you put your own spin on it and tweak it to your liking and now you've left your mark on the culture and there's a little bit of you going into the traditions of future generations and if that's not the most Jewish thing ever then I don't know what is.
My family’s recipe for lokshen kugel!www.tumblr.com -copy-pasted from my mom- This will make about 12 good pieces. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Spray an oven proof pan  - 9X11 or 13 pyrex or something like that with Pam 1/2 lb wide noodles (cook a…

SPEAKING OF I have a very distant memory of my great grandmother having these dry crunchy cookies in her house with large sugar crystals on top but it was not mandel bread and the shape was kind of like an elephant ear but also wasn’t rugelah and I’ve never seen it in a Jewish deli so … ????
And this is ALL Jewish food. Cause we never stayed anywhere for long all our recipes are hand-me-downs. We have dishes that share the same name but you'll never find anyone doing it any way but the one they learned from their mom or grandma and it'll all depend on where they fled from and fled to.

The only way to make accurate Jewish food is to serve it to six Jewish people who all say it’s good but quietly believe their grandma’s is better.

I love those heritage recipes where everyone has a slightly different version, because after making 2 or 3 of them, you, too, have extremely strong opinions on which is The Correct Version and have started tweaking them all to get closer to your ideal recipe

I'm trying to learn more Sephardic dishes and Jewish foods from outside of Eastern Europe. If you've got non-Ashkenazi or dishes from outside the region you love please share them! I wanna broaden my experience of Jewish culture since we're from literally everywhere!
Tonight I'm making the Iraqi Jewish dish Tbeet, which I've never had before. But I just watched like 5 videos and each one was a *completely different* recipe so I figure I'll never actually eat Tbeet so much as I'll just taste its vibes.

For weeks I'm going to be seeing people discussing help received from posts -- a motorized wheelchair, help finding housing, a new friend who believed them and helped through a tough time, a post that changed their outlook -- and thinking to myself "Ah yes, but posting? It doesn't even matter."

If our posts didn't matter, they wouldn't have wanted to make the internet a place where you can't decide whether a post was written by a bot, a troll or someone who actually knows what they are talking about. They have intentionally gone out of their way to try to sabotage online activism.

People who believe nothing you post has impact- have no idea how to use a platform & they may also have an interest in discouraging you from speaking out. Online activism matters. Look at what they did to Twitter. Twitter was previously one of the most important communication tools on the planet.
