I absolutely cannot fucking believe the people pushing JB Pritzker, of all possible candidates, as the magical last-minute Hail Mary substitute for Biden.
Aside from 1) the logistical problem (campaign apparatus and money are transferrable to Harris, and no-one else); 2) the narrative impossibility of rejecting Biden *and* his veep; and 3) the betrayal and division it would involve, what gets me is: people proposing folks with no national reputation.
This entire conversation is the most irrational, burn-the-house-down political response I’ve ever seen. And I was here for the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago.
I've got nothing against him! Maybe he's great! I hope he is!
But like most everyone else outside of Illinois, I know absolutely nothing about him. He could rob my local bank in broad daylight not wearing a mask, captured on every camera, and no-one would have a clue who did it.
JB has been a delight as my governor but he is unelectable for many reasons that, right or wrong, offend different groups of voters. He is a large man and for much of the electorate that’s a no-go. He is (((Jewish))). He’s also a billionaire. He also has the Chicago albatross hanging on his neck.
I know he’s somehow the least corrupt governor of Illinois in forever and actually pretty surprisingly good in ways that I can’t actually quite remember
Might be good at the national stage but not now/this way
I live in Illinois and love my big, beefy boy (as much as one can love a billionaire) but even I'm not insane enough to think he could mount a winning national campaign in 4 months.
