With today's ruling John Roberts made the President into a god-king. Unconstrained so long as they do everything through members of the executive branch, to whom they can issue pardons. Interesting to contemplate Roberts standing in front of the Capitol, issuing the oath that delivers this power.

I've seen tomorrow's NYT front page (international edition), and it's time to update the kitten meme again.

With new reporting out today saying that New York Times publisher AG Sulzberger is encouraging his writers to attack Biden over his age until Biden gives a long interview to his newspaper, it's time to update the kitten meme.

A homeless shelter wrote an amicus brief in the Grant’s Pass case. They argued SCOTUS should let the city arrest the homeless because, and I am not shitting you, the ban on doing so meant less people were willing to abide by their “two church services a day and no sex” requirement to sleep inside.

Gorsuch literally wrote, in almost those exact same words, "In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread."

Tennessee is sending notices to voters - most of whom seem to be migrants who had driver's licenses before becoming citizens & registering to vote - telling them to prove their citizenship if they would "like" to do so. As an Atheist Jew I would be furious if my classroom were forced by law to display any version of The Ten Commandments other than the one I have chosen to reject. Also, it's a classroom. They're supposed to teach the kids to respect and to cite original sources.

Eleven Commandments. Louisiana's law mandates a specific text. Not from Exodus, or Deuteronomy, but from the Fraternal Order of Eagles. They used a KJV-sounding pastiche adapted from the Bible and paraphrased by a Minnesota juvenile court judge in the 1950s. It's not the Bible. It's the Eagles.
