By the way, don't fool yourself for a second thinking this won't happen in privatized medicine too. Corporate pharma giants are already scrambling to grab as big a stake as possible in Canada's growing private virtual care market.
"It's all about how many items we can bill for, not patient outcomes." "We're constantly pushed to hit revenue targets, regardless of patient needs." "The pressure to push services on patients is relentless." END CORPORATE-OWNED PHARMACIES

This is a truly wild (and frankly embarrassing) statement. "Few psychiatrists understand this *checks notes* mental health condition, so that means family physicians are the MDs who treat it." So the specialists aren't trained to deal with ADHD but the generalists are??? 🫠 🩺

Read more about the history and legacy of Catholic hospitals in this in-depth piece by Wendy Glauser for The Walrus. These religious institutions receive public funding like other Canadian hospitals, but they're not obligated to follow the same rules. thewalrus.ca/catholic-hos...

At EVERY level of medical training you get the "come to Jesus" lecture on the sanctity of medical information. It's the backbone of medical ethics. You sure as shit don't access a chart that you have no association with. And then to share it with the media is next level stupid.

*7 hops off the schoolbus looking grubby as usual* Me: Wow, look at your legs, they're so dirty. 7: That's not dirt. Me: No? What is it? 7: It's stone dust. From the playground. Me: Lol, ok.

Several hospitals in Canada have people who are trained specifically to help people navigate health information. It’s literally our jobs, so ask us! #canmedlibs

Hey #canmedlibs help Dr Cohen and colleagues with a list of orgs that provide patient libraries. Sunnybrook, Hollland Bloorview, CHEO…. I know there are others

"I know doctors hate when patients google things, but I couldn't resist." ☝️I hear this a lot, but (maybe an unpopular opinion), I generally *like* when patients google. I think it's good to look things up and learn about your condition or try to figure out what your symptoms mean.

Mask bans will not stop crime. Mask bans will not stop protests. What mask bans will do is put people's health at greater risk, and make society less accessible.

I too am weary. Weary of doctors who can easily look up the guidelines on gender affirming care but instead chose to promote the dangerous disinfo that surgeries are being performed on children.

Friday afternoon before a long weekend. This is absolutely taking out the trash. "Ontario’s infrastructure is turning to a powerful tool recently granted to her to sidestep Toronto’s planning process and push ahead with the government’s controversial, signature redevelopment of Ontario Place."

Had a great time talking to Queen's family medicine residents in Belleville today about gender affirming care. I give this same talk to every cohort but this year I've had to add a few slides about the increasingly politicized environment in which we provide this care.
