This is super important work. And it looks like it's actually having an effect. Normal people learn about Project 2025 and are scared as shitless as they should be. The Nation, The New Republic, Rolling Stone, Boston Review and others are doing the work that NYT and WaPo are neglecting.
We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025

One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

One of the most powerful quotes I've seen about how this happens to a country and how this pivotal historical moment in America feels.
I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

And the fact that the piece didn't even mention that northern Idaho has been regarded as a haven for neo-Nazis and white supremacists since the Aryan Nations set up shop there in the 1970s is just a gobsmacking omission.
I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper

These are hateful bills target and ostracize vulnerable kids. They also speak to the misogyny of their authors, who are certain that anyone assigned male at birth is inherently better at sport. Sport can be a fun part of normal childhood. It needn’t be a high stakes gambit for college admissions.
Facing legislation that could reshape their lives, transgender teenagers became advocates in N.H. - The Boston Globewww.bostonglobe.com Bills heading to Governor Chris Sununu’s desk could block transgender teenagers from the sports teams, locker rooms, and bathrooms they identify with. So these teens spoke out.

It’s important to understand that we’re subject to indoctrination & propaganda from our government. We receive an extensive training to hold America’s alleged values dear in our upbringing. Until you investigate them, much of what you think of America is what the government wants you to think.

“Sometimes I wonder if all this coverage is because the media know how to cover a normal problem like a sub-par candidate; they don’t know how to cover something as abnormal and unprecedented as the end of the Republic. So for the most part they don’t.”

I fully agree with this - there’s an almost revolutionary zeal behind their efforts to run him out of office, they can sense that it’s possible so they’ve stopped worrying about what comes next or whether it’s an especially good idea.
Part of what’s happening with the Biden political media freakout is about power to act. Journalists have felt feeble and useless during the Trump era. They write their usual articles about Trump and it has little effect on his approval. Not so with Biden.

Especially given that Biden was an erratic speaker in his prime—the question is how far off his cognitive baseline Biden is now, and if you're gonna push out a news alert every time he misspeaks and immediately corrects himself, you're just making it harder for the public to figure it out!

Totally. The media is mean to Biden, and they are going to be mean to Harris. That's life. It sucks. Politics is dirty. But idk, part of campaigning is being able to help drive the news and get your message out to voters, not just be completely blindsided repeatedly by it.

Holy shit, the Supreme Court actually wrote that Trump telling Pence to claim the wildly unconstitutional power to single-handedly reject certified Electoral College votes, thereby overthrowing Constitutional democracy, can't be illegal because POTUS and VP talking about it makes it an official act.

So the Gilbert Baker Foundation is demanding money from small time queer creators because they correctly referenced a specific color scheme as "the Gilbert Baker flag" on their site?
So uh... anybody with a bigger megaphone than me want to help a butch out? The Gilbert Baker Foundation & CMG are asking a settlement from us for referring to the Gilbert Baker flag/original color scheme as the "Gilbert Baker flag" of twice what we've ever made from anything with those colors.

Weird that the headlines a few weeks later were all EMAILS and not a steady drumbeat of stories expecting him to imminently drop out.
It's different because it was MUCH later in the campaign, but FWIW, 24 representatives, 15 senators, and 7 governors said they wouldn't vote for Trump or called on him to get out after the Access Hollywood tape in 2016. Obviously, he stayed in. www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...

i think Trump’s success in distancing himself from the policies of his own people is at least partially because there’s an authenticity to it: he really doesn’t give a shit about the right wing agenda, he’s just willing to trade it in exchange for power
even trump’s campaign staff (i assume he didn’t write this) knows that the reactionary, authoritarian agenda that’s project 2025 is going to be unpopular with the average voter.

Just like none of the bold investigators backfilling Joe Biden's feeble debate performance with punchy anonymous quotes have ever figured out why Trump was rushed to Walter Reed, claimed he wanted a spur-of-the-moment weekend checkup, and a year later declared that he had NOT had a series of strokes
"Executive Time" fell out of the coverage of Donald Trump in the most incredible way. Nobody writing about his quest to become president again ever mentions the fact that he hated the job when he had it and he couldn't and wouldn't really do it!
