So what you're really saying is "no, there's nothing you can do," right? www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

My grandparents were detained while driving through New Jersey because they thought my father might be the Lindbergh baby.

More accurately, the insurance and pharmacy benefit management industries just raked off $85.29 that did not need to be spent on this drug. Mark Cuban's costplusdrugs.com has this for $11.60, no insurance involved. This is a huge part of our spiraling medical expenditures.

Reskeet with how old you are, using a vague proxy: President Kennedy has been shot. Martin Luther King has been shot. Bobby Kennedy has been shot.

Mild COVID is not to be taken lightly. I had mild COVID last August. Afterwards, one by one, mild symptoms gradually got worse until I'm now too sick to do anything, but not sick enough to do nothing. COVID -> atrial fibrillation -> fluid retention -> stress on heart -> systolic heart failure.

I'm rooting for Catalytic in today's Kentucky Derby. Why? Because that sounds like the names of race horses in Dick Francis novels. No, I don't bet on races professionally. Why do you ask?

I don't understand why there isn't an Adirondack chair and side table full of ice cold lemonade under that tree. Do they only appear later, perhaps on Flag day?

That's your opinion. I've never seen a cat that would agree with that.

TIL* that I have a dry weight and it's 10-15 pounds less than recent weight. Lasix got me down to it and I'm wondering how long I was dragging along that EXTRA water and stressing my heart from it. * from (one of) my cardiologists. Jealous? Get hospitalized and start collecting some of your own!

Somehow my employer figured out I'm in the hospital and texted me an offer to help out. At 5:20 AM. ("Somehow" - my employer is Google.) Then lights on 20 minutes later for a blood draw. 10 minutes later, need to weigh me. To be fair, I had lost 10 pounds since yesterday. Lasix! Sleep? Here? Hah!

I took Florida's required course in "Americanism versus Communism" in twelfth grade. It was surprisingly good. But ever since TWA 800 I've been seeing America adopting the totalitarian practices we were warned about. We've ceded a lot of liberty in the name of security these last few decades.

Wow. I admit I'm only about a quarter of the way through the article, but I'm having to pause after every other sentence to say to myself "what a snarky asshole this writer is". Sometimes I mean snarky as a compliment. Not this time.

"No cell service on the mountainside." That's the core problem to fix. Buy a horse to be your dog's best friend. Put a microcell with satellite uplink in the horse's saddlebags. Problem solved!

When did airports decide their maps should be 3D, tiltable, rotatable, and IMPOSSIBLE to actually use? My actual airport experience is relentlessly 2D. I do not soar above the concourse. I do not spin around. I do wander the runways. I want to pan and zoom without the map flying all over the place.

Make that I do NOT wander the runways. They've make it clear to me that they don't like that.

#there_oughta_be_a_law that if I grudgingly pay to remove ads from the service I already pay for and then you show me ads, I get $1 million.

Thanks for sharing this. I was getting jealous of people talking about all the blocking they do, when I don't encounter very many deserving assholes here. This poster let me get a good feeling block out! (Stunning attitude on their part.)

We've always found our cats' artisanal shredding service the most effective. The dog was enthusiastic, but the cats are thorough.

Thank you! I didn't feel I had the right to ask you for it, but I sure do appreciate it.

I have an unusual last name (Engelke) and yet Frederik Pohl named a character Charles Engelke in one of his books. There aren't many of us out there, but I suspect he was naming the character after another Charles Engelke. Perhaps the one studying Physics at Stony Brook when I studied Math there.

Peacock is doing a terrible job with the Dolphins/Chief game. First, they advertised it starting at 4:30 PT, but after 5, I see no indication that it's going to start anytime soon. Second, the app on Google TV is crap. You can't jump forward or back, or see content you FF or REW over. Just awful.

Hydrox are much better, but hard to find, and still hard for an adult to tolerate more than 3 or 4 at a time, at the most.

Monday's Slate Daily Quiz slate.com/news-and-pol... was on vocabulary, and my 280/300 got me 11th place overall. Today I came back to earth with their quiz on "culture" slate.com/news-and-pol.... Is 0 out of 300 a good score?

I'm seeing lots of people saying courts should not keep Trump off the ballot, because that's not their role. But what if Obama ran for president? Would he be allowed on the ballot? Nope. Why is it okay to enforce the 22nd Amendment but not the 14th Amendment against Trump?

Three years ago, a routine mammogram saved my life. Off for my yearly checkup today, and hoping I'm still in the clear. Anyone due for their checkup this month, please don't put it off - early diagnosis really makes all the difference...

Today's a big day for AI at Google Cloud as Gemini is announced. I've been meaning to get deeper into what's available for a while, so I took Duet AI for Developers for a spin. I ended up being surprised at how easily I got some useful pair coding going with my AI partner! Worth trying out.
