Guess what the latest pseudoscience "wellness" trend is that's right it's anti-sunblock brigades yep it has "chemicals" or some shit so better not rub that on yourself good luck with your skin cancer at least you didn't touch a chemical!
There's also a diet version where the only form of Good Sunblock/Sunscreen costs something like $100 and has to be absolutely perfect.
This stresses me out quite a bit because I live in Australia and sort of think we should all just wear one of the many cheap but good varieties of sunblock here.
I recall Aussie cousins visiting in the 1980s, and they were much more sun conscious than we Canadians were at the time. They talked about advertising campaigns about it.
Slip Slap Slop is an absolutely legendary and effective campaign and PSA.
And yeah it's incredibly necessary here as Australia is essentially on the surface of the sun (well, seems so to a Hibernian raised in England) and also ended up with less of an ozone layer than everywhere else.
That was exactly the one they quoted. I was reminded of it when watching The Inbestigators w/ my kid. when the kids who’ve misplaced their sun hats have to spend recess under a shelter.
And Americans need to consider using Asian, European or Australian sunscreens because the technology is much more advanced - Lab Muffin on YouTube is so good on what works and why.
My absolute favorite (I have lupus traits in my skin, so it’s a big deal) is by Ethde House. They make a great matte finish one that doesn’t feel at all greasy or gross on my skin. (It’s also not waterproof, so I need a sport formulation for pool or lake days)
The spinner of latest wellness trend landed on this again?
This one is almost as common as anti-vax or anti-flouride!
Haven't had anti-refrigeration, anti-air-conditioning or anti-electricity recently. We have had anti-radio, though. 🤦
Of course, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful. In a lot of places like Hawaii they actually ban the sunscreens that are bad for the corals because all of that ads up!
And if you have sensitive skin, or bad luck with sweating off the sunblock, the outdoors companies have a huge variety of summer weight UV protective clothing. Hats are worth a lot, but make sure they have a full brim. Lotta skin cancers happen on the tops of ears.
