Chicago: if you didn't know, they are starting to make progress fixing the Nicholas J. Melas Centennial Fountain, which has been out of commission (both the fountain and water arc) since 2020! It's not reopened yet, but this photo is from yesterday. Some good news.
WSJ this morning. lol at the last bit.
"Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."
To that point, and I say this carefully as a comment on visual tropes in news photography only, but this kind of photo (the anger, the defiance) is usually the photo of the shooter, not the victim. It is striking. How it reads depends on how you see him and we know the right immediately loved it.
It's funny, Trmp's furious face & his upraised fist made dislike him more than I ever have. Shock is shock but his face said it all: he wasn't gettin offstage, he wasn't trying to keep SS safe, he wanted to stay in the mess & say LOOK AT ME. Gather the crowd. Took no time for him to pivot to revenge
