it’s not even that it’s a bad idea - sometimes you have to choose between bad options - but the way almost everyone pushing it has given seemingly zero thought to every question about what happens next
It’s a very bad idea born of a social media understanding of politics, which isn’t how voter behavior actually works. Working class, “rank and file” Democrats in Pennsylvania—not very online—will be far less motivated for vote for someone whose name they heard for the first time a few weeks earlier.
If Biden steps down, that is real "Dems in disarray" moment that will penetrate down to the most disconnected voter imaginable. It could get overwhelmed by other factors, but is clearly a negative signal about Dem leadership and most of the response I've seen about what to do about it is "Pfft."
Trump’s public response will be: The Democrat party knows the last four years under Biden were a disaster for this country under the man who stole the election from me, and they’re looking in the couch cushions for any spare candidate they can find without his stink on them.
