I’m still trying to find the word count-friendly way to say ‘this is indisputable fact and I understand why it’s occurring but my brain refuses to accept it as our shared reality.’

Are you looking for a swear-word free version? I’ve never had someone “well actually” my “this shit is so fucked up!” But I know that doesn’t work in a lot of the meaning that you’re trying to convey

There are times when I have exclaimed "I CANNOT EVEN" when in fact, when it came down to it, I could.

I've started qualifying hyperbole with "feels like" so when someone tells me that something isn't literally the case I can just ☝️

Replace with incredible, a word that means very nearly the same thing (in your use) but which has completed its journey from literal to figurative use

I use incredible a LOT, but I like mixing up my language - but ah well

I do feel like "incredible" has a generally-positive connotation that can be confusing, though. Like, I get that it can mean good or bad things, but the bulk of it gets deployed one way.

Trump uses it constantly, and I get a little happiness from telling myself "Yeah, I know." I don't do this to regular humans.

I find myself IRL saying, "I can't believe ... okay, I mean, I believe it but it's just ..." like I can't even talk because I've seen so many attacks on people who express any kind of feeling at the state of things that should not be true but are.
