Also going to gently say that we should all get paid fairly for our work and that includes writers and artists and cover designers etc etc
Talked to several designers for book projects and they've all been hit super hard by AI Anyway if you have a cover project consider a cover artist

Stars and planets, THIS. This FOREVER. And also the missing art of folks who were passed over and shut out because such men didn't want to fuck them in the first place and therefore just utterly ignored them
Hot take: I'm truly not interested in hand wringing over how much people will miss enjoying the books of men who have turned out to be abusers. I'm far more concerned about the missing art that women haven't been able to create/publish because they crossed paths with such men.

The short story format is going strong, it just doesn't pay as well as it once did. The same market forces that gutted newspaper profits have impacted short fiction markets. If you're interested in reading more speculative short fiction, look here: www.trollbreath.com/sff-magazine...

Please consider subscribing to @aimod.social, a service which labels AI images on Bluesky. Even for people who are not opposed to the use of AI images, being able to identify them is very important for this reason.
It's not harmless. It's not "just an innocent thing" to be fooled by AI. You NEED to be able to discern and differentiate reality. You NEED to know how the world works on a basic level. Because fooling you with baby animals and flowers is just the start of something much worse.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

My son has graduated. I have no idea how this happened despite being his learning coach for 13 years. I'm very proud, and very old. :D

I have a specific anecdote about this. I had a dog in a series that was extremely intelligent. Could talk via Scrabble tiles. My editor made me explain it. I did; there were reasons. Then she had me take the explanation out. Because the mystery / wondering was more magical than the actual why.
Not everything in a story needs to be explained. Many times a reader's answer to a question posed by the characters or narrative is much more informative than the author's. Learning to leave that space--and protect it against all comers--is a question of artistic choice and just plain experience.

Finally, book #20 of the twenty books that inspired me list. Trust me, I had to trim a ton. Honorable mentions to Dune, Christopher Moore and Terry Pratchett.

I will be at #Furlandia this weekend celebrating Furs in Space :) Will also have a table full of books to buy and read featuring fuzzy animal characters. We're on the right wall as you walk into the dealer's den. Close to the front. Pics to come.
