NYT: History, philosophy, religion, foreign languages, literature, and every single art form are unworthy of study. The Great Dumbening is almost complete.

OH SHIT THIS IS THE LADY WHO THREW AWAY HER KIDS' HALLOWEEN CANDY BECAUSE OF COURSE SHE IS.

Callard is sort of a crank, co-hosts a podcast with Robin Hanson. The weird thing is she's being published in the Times, but I guess anything that supports the anti-humanities narrative will do in a pinch

She can write whatever dumb things she wants but they not only published it, they promoted it. I get that they want the clicks but come on.

Wasn’t this same article published like 6 months ago? One thing the humanities teach you is how to do a damn little search…
Avatar
Should be “lit search”.

NYT published this in early December. Not sure why it was being distributed or circulated today unless someone was forwarding it to the OP.

It came in my email today.

Well, in her defense, she IS a philosophy professor. I mean...what the hell do THEY know?

Since the Greeks did everything first, which Greek philosopher first said that philosophy had no value.

I’m not as versed in the Greeks but I’d guess Aristotle.

Oh I’ve got it. Socrates and his refutation.

She's the lady who divorced her husband and married her graduate student.
Isn't this the philosophy teacher that screwed in one way than one a student as well as her spouse? She is the guy one who threw away Halloween candy and forgot one year. I think she's just cruel and wants to be contrary
Avatar
Which she’s welcome to do but why publish it and then promote it via email?

Sometimes it feels like the left and right agree on the desirability of fascism, just not what policies they want their respective fascist overlords to impose.
Avatar
This is why everyone hates moral philosophy professors.
