People unironically posting Naomi Shihab Nye’s famous fireworks poem today “No Explosions”. Nye is a Palestinian-American poet and this poem is perhaps most apt for #July4 for the US but everyday in Palestine.

"Independence from Britain" is the world's most celebrated holiday.
"you're not American why do you care about the 4th of July" mate I'm Indian, any day someone got the Brits to fuck off back to their country is a national holiday for me

IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

Note that they did not suggest the same for the other side, whose nominee has been convicted of fraud, sexual assault, and who now faces multiple credible charges of the rape of children. No reason for him to withdrawal; he's good for clicks.
Cannot emphasize enough how pathetic these editorial boards are revealing themselves to be.

A few months before he was reelected overwhelmingly, it was widely reported that Ronald Reagan napped during cabinet meetings.

Lmao they just changed the title of the piece from “Why I don’t vote” to “Why I won’t vote” rather than tell readers that the guy actually does vote

Nothing says #July4 like a juicy slice of watermelon. This delicious fruit doesn't just appear on our picnic table. It takes a lot of work. An average watermelon weighs 20 lbs. It's 100+ degrees in Bakersfield today. Can you imagine harvesting them in high temps? #WeFeedYou

If voting could change anything, the New York Fucking Times would run ratfucking articles claiming it could not.

Yeah, I’m honking this horn again. Vote Forward is a nonprofit that equips volunteers to write letters to potential voters. VF focuses on nonpartisan messaging to groups that face higher levels of voter suppression. Here’s their website:
I think there must have been a huge 4th of July push because a ton of Vote Forward campaigns saw a jump in the number of voters “adopted” (basically, people you commit to writing a letter too)
Vote Forwardvotefwd.org Vote Forward volunteers send heartfelt handwritten letters to unregistered and low-propensity voters encouraging them to participate in our democracy. The letters have been shown to significantly boos...

It's pretty interesting what the media decides is front page news and what they don't decide is front page news! Trump being a child sex abuser with close connections to Jeffrey Epstein somehow doesn't merit the same coverage as "unnamed Dem insider has concerns about Biden's age"
I saw this was trending and had to google it "The post alleges that Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for this year's presidential election, "forced" young girls to "perform lesbian sex acts."

On INDEPENDENCE DAY they published this. ON THE FOURTH OF JULY 2024 THE NEW YORK TIMES TOLD PEOPLE NOT TO VOTE. I'm furious.

"Poor Teeth" by Sarah Smarsh is still the best long essay I've read about how dental health impacts AND is impacted by income in U.S. Her writing is beautiful and heartbreaking. "If you have a mouthful of teeth shaped by a childhood in poverty, don’t go knocking on the door of American privilege."
One of the biggest class signifiers in US life is your teeth. Dental care in general (and cosmetic dentistry in particular) is shockingly expensive here. But if you have flawed teeth, you *will* be silently judged for that.

Democracy Dies In Dumbness.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett had a breakout term on the Supreme Court. With piercing questions from the bench, and a willingness to break ranks with other Republican nominees in an era of conservative dominance on the court.
