Hey, so.
I understand that this is anecdotal and not research, but.
It is WILD how useless social media has become for promo. It's a fucking disgrace, really.
I feel like traditional publishers are also scrambling to figure out where the readers are at as well. Nobody seems to have any answers. It's kind of tepid 'maybe be a guest on this podcast?' type stuff
All you gotta do is make a viral video channel so you can land a movie role, so you can sell your book, so you can sell your screenplay. It's not complicated, people!
I, for one, would love a PREVIEWS type catalog sent to my address twice a year from publishers.
I’d then have a grander idea of what’s being published than I do now, and would be more likely to buy.
Yes! Feels like the whole industry is waiting to see what the next way this is going to work will be. Where will people end up? We are in the weird inbetween.
I have purchased books because I heard the author on a podcast! I’m currently reading HOUSE OR LILLIES by Justine Firnhaber-Baker because of her fascinating conversation with @patrickwyman.bsky.social on the Tides of History podcast. But, I think that’s more limited to niche subjects.
