PSA: LABELERS WORK!
The @profile-labels.bossett.social labeler just tipped me off to a scam before I wasted any time (or money!).
When Lars won the #mayllennial prize money, I asked where to send it, and a scammer quickly imitated them and was outed by the new account / no display name labels 🙂
Also, to anyone worried labels don't have to all be doom & gloom. Context matters!
When I see the New Account label on someone who is like, a genuine person, and they're an artist, it makes me wanna boost 'em!!
They just help you read posts a bit smarter.
Make sure you're using the latest version of BlueSky, then, on a labeler account, hit subscribe where the follow button would be if it were a normal account.
Then, you'll see what the account labeler provides. You can choose to hide accounts with labels, show warnings on their posts, or do nothing.
