IDK kind of feels like we should be paying more attention to a prominent conservative think tank saying we're in the midst of a second american revolution that will remain bloodless as long as long as the left lets it be, then whether or not Biden should step down.

We had a special issue with historical perspectives on NCLB in HEQ a few years ago. Most (but not all) of the relevant articles in it are open access. Disclosure: I committed history in that issue. Or co-committed it with Christian Ydesen.

This is how I find out the episode is up :) It's not just the religious right, but all proponents of privatization as a means of general improvement in some sector (in my view). Whether they recognize it or not, it always comes down to somebody's exclusive use or exclusive decision-making power.
Just heard @derekgottlieb.bsky.social say on the latest @haveyouheard.bsky.social pod, "[the religious right] is trying to make the acceptance of this anti-pluralistic, anti-democratic public space the cost of having ANY services [public ed], ANY protections, ANY individual liberties whatsoever." 🔥

This is not just theologically correct, it is sociologically correct as well.
There is another world that is possible that we can only get to when we begin to live into it now. I don’t know how else to say it. Like— we can’t get there by continuing to act into the world of domination and hierarchy in any place where we have a choice not to.

This thread was sparked by my impulse to explain how we have undercut our educational systems in ways that abandon democratic ideals to make fertile ground for autocracy #EduSky #help

haven't done this... have any #iteachmath or #mtbos folks done so?
Hi @ilanahorn.bsky.social Do you have a #MTBoS BlueSky spreadsheet like the one you shared for Mastodon? If so, will you share it, please? Thank you!

In particular, is anyone planning to submit studies focused on families' choices/school-choosing experience?
Is anyone planning to submit a paper on school choice and segregation/integration/diversity for #AERA25? Let me know and maybe we can put a panel proposal together!

Once again asking all educators who're embracing AI to consider how the technology's mounting environmental harms are antithetical to our work with young people and their futures on a habitable planet.
“Ability to find power right now will determine the winners and losers in the AI arms race. It has left us with a map bleeding with places where the retirement of fossil plants are being delayed.”
AI is exhausting the power grid. Tech firms are seeking a miracle solution.www.washingtonpost.com Some data centers need as much energy as a small city, turning companies that promised a clean energy future into some of the most insatiable guzzlers of power

during grad school in the 90s, some cog sci folk built computer models in the hopes of understanding human learning. i saw an early version of LLMs, which is what "artificial intelligence" amounts to, even now. even as a novice, i saw the fundamental distinction between human and machine learning
So Hinton is taking exactly 1 component of the *potential* frameworks of human understanding, & claiming that 1) that is all of human understanding, 2) that generative "AI" understands in exactly the same way, & thus 3) that generative "AI" understands like humans. Honestly that's just bad logic.
