Alright timeline cleanser time: What are some bad movies that you unironically love? I don’t mean like MST3K love here. It’s not a good movie, but you enjoy it on its own merits anyway I am starting with The Accountant

Now can you dig it?!?!

I thought you said *bad* movies

How dare you call this a bad movie

I’m sorry but this movie owns. Not eligible. 😑

It's not bad it's just camp!

Don't listen to them, it is bad and I also love it. One of the only movies I think could actually use a modern remake that could do more with a fantastic premise in the hands of the right people

Constantine. Keanu *and* Swinton? Come tf on

It’s a great movie, just not a great John Constantine characterization.
Avatar
Absolutely this. Stormare as Lucifer was a great choice. I love Constantine lol
Avatar
Constantine is a terrible adaptation, but if you can let go of that it's a pretty good movie.
Avatar
Lol i shoulda kept reading. I just said the same thing.

There are several long threads in the replies, very understandable!

One of the best bits of advice I ever saw about comic book movies (but could be applied to many adaptations) is that you'll enjoy it more if you look at it as an homage to the source material instead of an attempt to reproduce it. (Also, at the time? I absolutely raged against Constantine. 😂)
Avatar
I can't really enjoy it. It didn't even homage very hard imo but a lot of people sure did like it and I tried to be understanding of that. I am better at it now lol.

Best performance as someone playing Satan…ever.

I feel like what happened there is it's a good movie that's a terrible adaptation. Comics nerds are never happy with change but that was unrecognizable.

The exorcism at the beginning is simply amazing special effects work.

Krull. You get glimpses that they found a writer who envisioned this elaborate world with magic and political intrigue between kingdoms and the director was like, "Yeah we're not gonna use any of that"
Avatar
“Fire mares can travel 1000 leagues in a day!”
Avatar
It even features an early career Liam Neeson.
Avatar
I'm so mad Kevin Sorbo has become such an awful person that I don't think I can rewatch it.
Avatar
That was 1997's Kull the Conqueror. Krull was a wild 1983 space-fantasy epic.
Avatar
Whoops, sorry! Yeah, I just rewatched Krull a year or so ago. It had so much potential!
Avatar
No problem! (And it was completely Sorbo-free!)

I still remember Lysette Anthony being on the cover of a bridal magazine, and that there was a replica of her dress sold by a major bridalwear company.

I almost selected this as my example

IT IS A GREAT MOVIE AND I WILL NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR LOVING IT! Also: hello, Andie MacDowell (respectfully).

That role was supposedly for Isabella Rossellini, who I can only think of in a throwaway Letterman bit. She was supposed to appear on his show one night, but had to cancel. He spent the whole show doing a non sequitur impression of her agent "Eesa-bella, she canna come, Mr. Dave. She have da flu."
Avatar
They made up later and he introduced her to his friends, Uma and Oprah.
Avatar
I adore the movie but she didn't work for me. She was absolutely a Cutie but that dolphin princess scene just felt like Tom Green try-hard absurdity. I don't know if anyone could have made it work.

🎶 Would you like to swing on a star… 🎶 ❤️

Quigley Down Under, with Tom Selleck in Australia and Alan Rickman chewing scenery

“Said I didn’t have much use for one. Never said I didn’t know how to use it.”
Avatar
ok but that movie is Good, Actually (once again Rickman *always* knew exactly what movie he was in even when the people making the movie didn't)
