... Asking for cryptocurrency when one of your sins is "crypto promotion" seems a little off to me. Am I missing something?
Avatar
crypto is only useful for one thing: crimes.
Avatar
actually it's not even useful for that because 1) the blockchain is a public ledger of all transactions (even between a user's different crypto wallets) 2) the second someone tries to convert it to spendable currency they now have a name to which they can trace back to the original transaction.
How a 27-Year-Old Codebreaker Busted the Myth of Bitcoin’s Anonymitywww.wired.com Once, drug dealers and money launderers saw cryptocurrency as perfectly untraceable. Then a grad student named Sarah Meiklejohn proved them all wrong—and set the stage for a decade-long crackdown.

monero's been out for a whole decade now if you're gonna spread misinformation about crypto at least get some talking points that aren't outdated by a complete decade thanks
Avatar
this is literally an article from January of this year. but go on shilling your crypto.
Avatar
did you read the part of the article that says it's (adapted from a 2022 book) about a 2013 paper bitcoin has never been private or pretended to be, and nobody serious has shilled bitcoin in the last decade either
I call dibs on the conspiracy theory that the "crypro is untrackable" claim was started by the government, so criminals would use it.
Avatar
i mean, it is untraceable if you’re smart about it. it’s just that being smart about it makes it really hard to turn into cash
Avatar
it's not untraceable at all. because every single transaction is recorded on the block chain.

I don't even get why crypto blockchain stuff is even a thing, from the sound of it the crypto is an ever increasing list of names, what happens in like 100 years when a single bitcoin has a blockchain that's like, 50 terabytes in size or something? I may just be misunderstanding it but idk

Thank Zeus. And bring back Silk Road so adults can avoid Puritan nanny-state government overreach!
Avatar
flagging your preferred coin in order to boost its value by drawing in newbie investors is the crime. actually using it for its intended purpose - paying for things - is not. like hating house flippers but not having a problem with folks buying a home to live in
Avatar
No, I kind of stopped on that, too. The self righteous always have an argument around hypocrisy, though.
Avatar
Oh I thought that was just more trolling.
Avatar
@retr0.id seems like you’ll get a kick outa this

Modern day Robin Hood theme. I'm good with it.

Very light Grey Hats.
Avatar
This is lovely news to read first in the day
Avatar
this is stupid people saying this is based should get hacked just like this
Avatar
Cry harder, tech bro.
Avatar
if someone emptied your bank account and said it was because you used windows 11 would you accept your place as a "tech bro" or would you be rightfully upset?
Avatar
also you literally have he/him pronouns in your bio and you're calling someone with she/her pronouns in her bio a "bro" either stop pretending that you're not transphobic or read what you're typing before you send it
Avatar
1. AI “art” is literally driving artists out of work. These AI tech bros deserve to reap what they sow. 2. “Tech bro” is a generic term that refers to *those* kind of people, who are predominantly male. I’m not aware of a female-specific term for such people.
Avatar
3. Why are you even defending those tech bros? They are going to come for you eventually. Once they do you will regret speaking in defence of them.
Avatar
I mean I support anything that fights back against the theft which is AIT "art," but at the same time, it seems a bit hypocritical of them to both condemn crypto and then specifically ask for crypto in payment.
Avatar
Avatar
Eh, I'm not so sure. There's really only one thing crypto is plausibly useful for (exchange of funds in an anonymous, digital, not gov't endorsed way) and if that's all it was used for, it wouldn't have the same cultural or environmental impact is has toast.

Restore backup problem solved
Avatar
Doesn't solve the problem if the vuln hasn't been patched tho
Avatar
Also doesnt solve the problem if the malware can compromise accounts or confidential information (article specifically says crypto wallets were compromised off the back of this)
Avatar
I should have read the article lol
Avatar
Happens to the best of us haha. It's also like, only briefly mentioned in one paragraph halfway in, so it's easy to miss
Avatar
Avatar
The linked article claims that the malicious code existed since first commit
Avatar
Well that's a problem

Avatar
Very amusing and good. But I am confused about one of their sins is crypto promotion but they take crypto?
Avatar
They can't exactly give out their PayPal As much as all crypto currencies are scams, they can still be used as a super risky form of money in that they're value is arbitrary and might as well be random Plus it's not ecologically friendly if they're taking Proof of Work crypto
