The speaker is prominent Denver 9NEWS anchor Kyle Clark, "who is growing a well-deserved reputation as a local journalist unafraid to call out bigotry and political extremism." See the highlighted portion especially. [From Corey Hutchins's newsletter on the Colorado media scene.]

Too many journalists would grudgingly accept state censorship. it wouldn’t be a deal-breaker/career-ender for them. So it’s not scary. Very little news actually butts up against what far-right authoritarians would find objectionable anyway. And pervasive crime news *is* the right-wing project.
Avatar
Same with professors and every other profession. Not just picking on journalists. It seems too costly for most people to consider resistance or even much opposition. And most can get on well enough under tyranny.

And to think Kyle's initial claim to fame was soliciting snow depth pics from viewers and being inundated with replies. If he had an avatar it would be a pint glass of craft beer nestled in three inches of snow sitting on a patio table

The pint glass needs a loud sports coat.

We love Kyle. He also happens to have a great dry wit and makes us laugh.

Yes, I have never heard viewers enthuse for their local news anchors' more than Metro Denver and Kyle Clark.

in case you don't know abt his Word of Thanks program, it's pretty amazing. >$12M raised for local non-profits in the past four[-ish] yrs.
A 'Word of Thanks' from Next: Dedicating a memorial to a local herowww.9news.com We’d like to begin offering a “Word of Thanks” every week during Next with Kyle Clark.

[ happily contributed to many of those causes as a result ]

We love him. He takes his job, but not himself, seriously, and he's such a helpful supporter of the community's charities.
Avatar
We all bonded during the pandemic. He anchored shows from his basement and many of us felt less alone.
Avatar
Also, check out his Word of Thanks campaign. Together we have raised more than $12m in 4 years to help Coloradans in need.
Avatar
I have given more than a few times to his highlighted charities.

The round firewood backdrop is iconic. 😷

I live in Denver and think he's great! He's not afraid to take a stand. When the last mayor got caught violating his own covid restrictions, Clark publicly banned him from his show.

I stan Kirk Yuhnke on Fox31 because I watch morning news more than evening and he's an affable, funny tech nerd like me. Kyle is in a class by himself as an evening anchor, though.

But at least these journalists will be guaranteed a living-wage job (and no incarceration or torture) in the new order. That’s a solid trade. Just ask Simonyan and Solovyov. Also, if they do well, they might even be granted a small villa on a lake.
Avatar
Idk, they probably believe that, and in some cases may be right. But even in a soft tyrannical faux democracy like Russia, allies to Putin mysteriously fall out of windows if they put a foot wrong. Gambling on fascism is high risk/high reward.
Avatar
Got to admit how pathetic the state of #journalism and #journalists are that he is an outlier. #News

Kyle is the best. He is ABSOLUTELY the best news person I've seen in my decades in NY, Seattle, and now Colorado.

I love Kyle but this is Steve Pool erasure

Do you have a link to the original article. I tried to locate it with no luck. I am interested in what he had to say about the Ark Valley Voice.
Avatar
It came to me in my email. I could not find a web version. I would have included the link if there was one.

I haven't listened to it yet, but it's possible it's from this recent podcast episode: the-smerconish-podcast.simplecast.com/episodes/den...

I live in CO and Kyle is like a state treasure. He could easily jump to a national desk, but he stays here, and we're the better for it.

He's not very active on here yet (more so on Twitter), but he's @kylec.bsky.social here.

Kyle Clark is one of Colorado’s best. Along with calling out bigotry and extremism, the work he does in the community is phenomenal.

Wow - pro-democracy is partisan?

I always watched Kyle when I lived in Denver.

Not to mention contributions to the community like this: x.com/chrisvanderv...

I’m in Denver and can confirm that Kyle does an excellent job and is an excellent journalist.

i'm pretty sure the whole thing worked out fine for the journos in Sinclair Lewis's It Can't Happen Here

I have noted Kyle speaking out in surprising – and quite pleasing – ways for several years now here in Colorado. Corey's description spot-on.

Love to see a journalist who doesn't pull his punches! That is sorely needed in today's discourse. It's the people who are afraid to ask hard questions and lose their access that leave us most vulnerable to misinformation. The ones who dig their claws in and fight back are the real deal.
