Red (the yard red squirrel) has figured out his best life. Eat birdseed on the railing, then sploot on the table under the shade of the deck umbrella. Chill in the shade, then go back out and get more birdseed.
Today (in 1999) was the day that I walked out of the Helsinki train station and saw Common Gulls (no doubt hanging around for scraps from the restaurants) for my first European lifer.
In the “Just when I thought I was out…” department… I’m hoping it will be a fun side activity/distraction, but I’m already researching roaning patterns and genetics. Because of course I am.

Because life is a never-ending cavalcade of wonders and distractions, I haven’t yet properly focused on the upcoming solar eclipse. However, this is a photo of the 2017 solar eclipse as projected through my binoculars onto my deck. There are lots of ways to see an eclipse without looking at the sun.
