Anyone who dresses like a sheriff is just…why. Usually I feel like I tell people about my book and they say HUH WHAT so this made me feel less insane.

I feel like this was more obvious to in the 70s / 80s? Maybe that's just my own experience, though. My dad, small farmer, lifelong politically active Republican (in Wisconsin, where there were many forms) was Not A Fan.

I would love to know what other costumes are disallowed at these parties. Seems like a thoughtful list! Sheriffs were heroes in Westerns, but if you grew up in the 70s and 80s, you had Smokey, you had Cool Hand Luke, you had the A-Team, you had the Duke boys...Sheriffs as petty tyrants was a vibe
