This is a great read (especially for folks who study “healthy behaviors”) on how challenging it is to overcome our preexisting biases even in scientific research.
It’s so funny how every study shows that ice cream is good for you but this makes scientists mad so they don’t talk about it web.archive.org/web/20240122...

This is a witch hunt targeted primarily at scholars of color who study race. Chris Rufo now going after Christina Cross for "plagiarism" - his go-to example is *descriptions of data that are similar.* There are only so many ways you can describe data!

I am going to repeat something I have said before: for at least 20 years, faculty have warned administrators about bad faith political attacks & administrators have been very slow to respond. This makes me angry.
The accusations against Claudine Gay were absolute garbage, but they worked, so of course this is continuing. College administrators need to PROTECT THEIR FACULTY from bad-faith, politically motivated, bullshit accusations.

Tomorrow will be a shameful day in Georgia, as our state poisons to death a man with an IQ of 68. It will be Georgia’s first execution in 4 years. I wrote to the clemency board pleading with them not to take this shameful action. abcnews.go.com/US/georgia-b...

The reason we need to keep talking about this is that it’s not about him being a hypocrite. It’s about the fact that a major social media platform has turned into a propaganda arm of the fascist right and that freedom of speech and press is under attack on this platform and beyond.
Twitter is nuking every single post that mentions the name Hans Kristian Graebener, even in quotes. Everyone that posts it is getting hit. I've never seen sitewide censorship like this done specifically on behalf of a neo nazi.

Why I will always vividly remember March 12, 2020. “Happy” four year anniversary of the day it all fell apart, while I was secretly having colon cancer surgery at Piedmont Athens Regional. Your friendly regular reminder to get your colonoscopies, people!

Just a reminder, this is the source for the plagiarism accusations against Claudine Gay, whom NY Times reporters treated as a good faith actor
nothing to see here, just chris rufo’s henchman telling the scottish prime minister humza yousaf that his blood is impure.

Mollie’s family begged Republicans and the media not to demagogue around her murder because the family reviled such racism. But of course the GOP didn’t honor their request.

REBLOGGING THIS AS A BURNT-OUT FORMER LIBRARY WORKER IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'M SCREAMING. Seriously, the library can't keep being your daycare, shelter, food bank, vaccine clinic, be-all end-all for everything. We need more free 3rd spaces.
The library being "the last real third space" isn't a reason to keep adding new responsibilities to the library; it is a reason to create more third spaces.

Just recorded a long episode of “Is This Democracy” with @lilymasonphd.bsky.social on Claudine Gay, the rightwing campaign against higher education, and why the mainstream media is so eagerly joining the reactionary crusade against diversity and pluralism. No holds barred in this one.

Universities subject students to ghastly automated suspicion scoring all the time - and in my experience, as here, the bibliography and direct quotes are mostly what get flagged. Turnitin's a mistrust machine, now weaponized against educators too www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
