One of the fun things about creating Conan stories that follow an overall timeline but aren't always released chronologically (just like the original pulp stories) is that seeds can get planted early on that pay off later...
Avatar
When Conan the Barbarian #1 came out, a few readers noted that a red-headed character shown in a flashback seemed out of place in Cimmeria. In issue #13, you'll see that character is a Vanir living amongst the Cimmerians, unusual but not impossible.
Avatar
Also in issue #1, a flashback of Conan hunting a bear on his own to test his mettle. In issue #13 readers will see that full bear hunt and understand its greater significance to our character.

Ridiculous and sad that we have to play these games at all, trying to trick the algorithm instead of just posting and reaching the audience that followed us in the first place.

David knows. Sekiro is absolutely top notch and worth every penny.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is $30 on Xbox and PlayStation for a couple weeks. I don't wanna hype it up too much, but this game changed how I thought about what makes a game worthy, difficulty, and fun gameplay. It's very much BC and AD over here with me and this game www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXMX...

@colleendoran.bsky.social posted a screenshot from her Facebook page analytics. Every time she includes a link to content outside FB's walled garden, the algorithm hides it from the majority of her fans. If she posts a photo/artwork and no link, the views are 10-15x greater.
Avatar
We all know this is how it works now, but seeing it in such stark relief is exhausting. Posting links in comments is now also triggering similar behavior, crushing the entire ecosystem that made social media so beneficial in the first place.
Avatar
If you post only text or a picture/photo, more people get to see it but you also have minimal ability to move interest anywhere else. It's the same with almost every social media outlet. The internet as siloed slices instead of the holistic whole.

That's why so many creators are frustrated and why so many of us are turning back to direct email newsletters or self-hosted blogs. My site is my name dot com. From there you can sign up for my direct email updates. For better or for worse, that's the most consistent way to find out what I'm doing.

(Also, if you post the word "congratulations", "award", or "anniversary" on Facebook, the system will usually boost it because it thinks you're celebrating something special...)

BAD: - Newly waterproofed and renovated basement leaked because of the ridiculous rainstorm today in Toronto. - Water heater broke yesterday, so it's cold showers and laundry until it gets fixed or replaced. GOOD: - Pushed through and finished a really tough script tonight.
Avatar
Going to re-read the script in the morning to make sure it still works, but right now it feels pretty damn good.

Did you know it's possible to have both too much and too little water at the exact same time? One example: when your recently-waterproofed basement starts leaking right after your hot water tank stops working.

Thanks so much, Justin. Obviously I've got a soft spot for Alpha Flight and would love the chance to prove their worth in the modern era.
Unrelated, I re-read your Alpha Flight story from True North. Don't know if I told you before, but it really put a good cap on one of the weirder bits of Byrne's original run, and sanded off one of the group's more misanthropic corners.
