#QueerWriters I'm a day late, but that's pretty much how my goals go, anyway. I'm still in a place where I just want to do something. Anything. Maybe set aside the fantasy WIP for Bad Fences? See if that'll flow better. I definitely want to go back to the library for writing time this week.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Magic is a real and present part of the fantasy WIP. There's no more believing in it than in water or fire. Magic and science are inextricably linked, though much like specializing in anything, some subjects will include more or less of it.

#FantasyIndiesJuly The entire world of the fantasy WIP is a genius loci. Magic is as omnipresent (and as taken for granted) as air. Everyone learns some basics that vary by environment, and they can settle for that or go on to study and practice different subjects.

#QueerPrompts Depends on the story. It's kind of tricky in the fantasy WIP because I want names from different parts of the world to have the same vibe, but I don't want to use real world names. Otherwise, baby name websites, sorted and browsed until something feels right. Meanings. Regions. Vibes.

also and I feel like I buried the lede here: it calls for the people who CREATE queer media to be imprisoned. That'd be people like me. Or any other queer creator you love. Any queen who's been on drag race. Chappel Roan. Janelle Monae. Anyone who's made a piece of queer media. Imprisoned.

Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

they want and need everyone to believe that it is hopeless and that nothing matters and that nothing will ever get better, but, like, they’re wrong. they’re liars. they lie, depression lies, this whole thing is a fucking con to get you to think that submission is better than liberty.

these people cannot win and they know it, their entire schtick is pretending that the reich on the march will keep everyone quiet and scared, but, again, we do not have to believe them, and if we do not, they lose.

#FantasyIndiesJuly The world in the fantasy WIP doesn't have racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, colonialism, etc. You let people be themselves and help them if you can. It's a shame on any community if someone is left hurting or hungry or otherwise in need.

#QueerPrompts Food is so important in the fantasy WIP, especially in the creation of it, that it's kind of funny to realize that all the drinks mentioned so far have been hot. There's a drink from the lost taiga made by boiling fruit and spices that can be served hot or cold called pyaschkty.

Lost in the ongoing Trumpapalooza is the excellent news that a malaria vaccination developed at Oxford Univ. over the last 30 years and costing only £3 per shot is being unrolled in malaria-prone countries. If it fulfills its promise, this will make an enormous difference to so many lives.

I picked up some Lemon Drop hot sauce this weekend, and it's...interesting. Definitely has a hit of lemon to it. A bit more heat than I expected, but not too much. I think I like it? Definitely good with chicken.

Quite a while ago, I had an idea for an enchanted forest themed ice cream parlor featuring ice creams and sundaes with lots of fresh fruit and flowers and herbs, all seasonally themed. Anyway, I have a new ice cream for my fantasy ice cream parlor: pistachio with fresh raspberries and fudge drops.

Went grocery shopping and discovered the school supplies are already out. Bought a pile of cute notebooks because that might secretly be what I need to get started writing again. (Pay no attention to the pile of unused notebooks over there, thanks.)

Getting increasingly pissed off by various politicians "distraught" today. This is America, where every day we wonder if this when someone we love gets mowed down by a shooter. Pretending to be shocked just shows you don't get it. Trump has a Secret Service detail to protect him. My kids don't.

#QueerPrompts Got no problem with flashbacks. They can be done well, they can be done poorly. They often fill in valuable information, and it can be more pleasant to go through than a conversation filling in those same details.

#FantasyIndiesJuly I'll go with a pet peeve with the current fantasy WIP: the basic plot and all the events that happen haven't changed...but tiny details keep moving around enough to require massive rewrites. I already had to drop it at over 40k words to start over once.

#QueerPrompts When they're done well? They can be awesome. The down side? They're rarely done well. (I also think the response to 'this thing is hard to pull off' should not be 'ok, I won't do it,' but rather 'challenge accepted.')

I read Reddit a lot, but I very rarely comment. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that my most upvoted comment ever is going over the history of using Egyptian mummies as medicine.

#FantasyIndiesJuly There are definitely newspapers in some parts of the world in the fantasy WIP, but nothing from the story would end up there until maybe the very end. I suspect most of the newspapers there are very small town where nothing exciting happens.
