watching british election returns the question struck me:
what would democrats do with a landslide? what’s the wish list? beyond saving democracy of course.
Be pretty situationally dependent, but I think the major bills and proposals that got filibustered/Manchinema'd in the first half of Biden's term would be the heart of it. VRA and democracy reform, PRO Act, restoring Roe, child tax credit, free community College and child care support, etc
This is one of the odd dynamics of replacing Biden with Harris - there are a number of significant positions it's possible she would change and hasn't said anything about because the VP doesn't do that to the president. Where does she stand on court reform now? Who knows?
I think she's definitely more open to it, simply by dint of not being on record against it the way Biden is. So pitch can be made. But also, I just think she's more pragmatic & pragmatically it's so necessary. Also, jurisdiction-stripping for reproductive rights & voting rights bills.
i love this. i wish we could go back to this programme (i’m sticking british for the evening) dominating the narrative but we’re up to our eyeballs in ‘biden isn’t up to it’
no doubt. but my question is meant as an exercise in dreaming and clarifying our vision rather than the present shitstorm of depression and demoralization.
But they COULD, actually. GOP positions are MASSIVELY unpopular, so if we could shake off this biased media narrative, it'd definitely be doable. Reactionary centrism of the mediasphere is #1 obstacle.
