What's up with news outlets deliberately softening this kind of thing?

There's a "view from nowhere" version of impartiality that's baked into the genes of the US mainstream press, and it's requiring greater and greater bits of acrobatics to sell the illusion of normalcy. To the point where the cognitive dissonance is unavoidable.

I will never forget 9/11, when what appeared to be two airliners appeared to collide with the twin towers, which then appeared to collapse. Was it cause and effect? Did it even happen? What is the “I” remembering this? Sadly our senses and thoughts are unreliable.

I understand that far, I suppose. I just don't see where the determination to faux impartiality arises.

American journalism school... Not that anybody who goes to one these days find any jobs. But from what I understand they really drill the impartiality thing into you. Tell you your entire career depends upon it. that you can never talk about who you voted for or what you volunteered for.
