Technically, cats do have a job! It's as mouser. The UK government employs cats to patrol No. 10 and the Treasury as they are prone to mouse infestation given the age of the properties and their location.
I have to disagree with the last one. My landlord has in the past brought an exterminator for mice, whereas my current cat while an excellent mouse *catcher* is a spectacular fail as as mouse *killer* so I still have mice but now they're badly wounded and frightened in my walls and now I'm very sad.
