Terrible as it is, Highlander 2’s whole “mankind waited way too long to do anything about climate change and when they finally did the ‘solution’ broke the sky” premise seems extremely plausible

It's not that we've been doing nothing. I'm a child of the 70s and I've witnessed several landmark changes for the better. Trouble is, at the same time, someone is always making things worse too. We need less of the latter and more of the former, and this election will be very important to that.

Exactly. Biden has passed more climate legislation, and farther-reaching climate legislation, than any president. Ever. Trump is saying in this story that he will reverse it.

Yes. And the US being so powerful and influential, we can create a permission structure for many other parts of the world. Or we can not do that. Not doing that is better.
You really need to stress “possible” to understand what a race to the bottom this election represents and where we are currently AND going forward. That is to say that we are on an irreversible track and you can thank the entirety of the Western political class.
