"His (UAE) Highness added that if the PA paid as much attention to its own people as it does to security coordination w/ Israel the Palestinians will be in much better shape." Is this the same UAE?

The US' ideal partners in our region are regimes who jail, torture & brutalise journalists, activists, organisers & human rights defenders. Our only allies are each other & we need to widen our struggles beyond the confines of our own borders. Our future battles are not against 1 dictator but many.

Reading Sartre and I think this same framing applies to Lebanese who are exercising anti-Syrian sentiment today

When my dad left his bookcase in Beirut in 2012, I had to give away most of his books. I kept a few though, including this book of interviews with Edward Said. It’s been a wonderful read

I reviewed the UK version of Mickaël Correia's 'A People's History of Football' for the Markaz Review. I chose to frame it within the context of Saudi Arabia seemingly set to host the 2034 World Cup. themarkaz.org/the-rebels-o...

This is Cheryl A. Rubenberg, writing about her experience in 1982 in Israel's siege of west Beirut. Her experience lasted one week. In Gaza today, we are now well past 2.5 months.

What does Gantz have to gain from opening a front with Lebanon? I can't see it being of any benefit to anyone in Israel other than Netanyahu and his far right allies - and only then because they extend their reign. Do they think they can genuinely remove Hezbollah from southern Lebanon?

NYT newsletter says an airstrike left a “crater and widespread damage” without mentioning that Palestinians died.

I understand you can't get into Gaza, but is there not more information you, the paper of record, can add to this?

The latest in a long line of disappointing policies/decisions by Europe. As Israel bombs Gaza, killing numerous civilians, and announces they will stop delivering food, water & fuel to the besieged population, we see another example of how Palestinians are simply held to a different standard.

A few months after my dad passed away last year, Rusted Radishes put out a call for submission Labor & Idleness. I was working through a lot of grief. I am still am. And I started to think about grief as a form of labor. Then I wrote about it for RR. The issue will be out later this year.

Carine wanted to pick a book for me and she chose this one. Coincidentally, I listened to a podcast recently discussing Richard Wright’s work & relationship w/ James Baldwin so it’s wonderful (& serendipitous timing)

Kalei, a cafe in Beirut with two branches, posted the photo below & is receiving comments from people claiming they will be boycotting the establishment. Here’s the thing: anyone who has been there knows the flag is always up. So the claim to boycott shows they’ve never been & never will go anyway.

Already posted this a while ago on Twitter but now that I’m here I have to keep my agenda going. If this man is “extremely handsome” then I demand the same public consideration.
