Apparently the government of the Yucatán recently erected a Poseidon statue on one of their major beaches. It’s a very heavily Mayan area, where people still pray to Chaac, the god of rainfall. They’re now being slammed with 3 hurricanes and significant flooding, leading to memes like this

Ironically one of the strongest influences the bible had on the constitution was the founders putting the "no religious tests are allowed as a qualification to hold any office" and "congress isn't allowed to make laws respecting an establishment of religion"

this idea that the bible was a significant influence on the constitution is obviously widespread but i've always been struck by insane it is. not that evidence matters to these people but if there's anything we know for certain about the 1787 convention it's that the bible had nothing to do with it.

Took the Brompton to work today just in case severe thunderstorms materialized and I needed to put it in the trunk (oops, boot) of a car. When I left work it wasn’t raining, but after I got a couple of blocks away it was. Left my rain jacket in the bag of another bike, but the ride was pleasant

When i was in law school Antonin Scalia came my first year (Ginsberg came my second and even bought one of my paintings but that's another story), and I'll always remember Scalia said his job was to know the answer desired and find the pathway through precedent to arrive there.
