I feel compelled to embrace this as I've become more and more annoyed by period pieces defaulting to simulating the looks produced by the cinematographic technology available during the era the story takes place. The pretense of a contemporary work "really" being an unearthed artifact from the past.

“Ripley” has this wildly uncanny look and it took me like five minutes to figure out that it’s because black and white which is also ultra-sharp, totally noiseless / grainless, and with an HDR tonal range is an aesthetic I’ve never experienced before. 📽️
