I...this is accurate and I hate it.
When I informed my D&D group I had Aphantasia they all freaked out because "Oh my God why do you enjoy D&D then if you can't SEE IT?" and I'm like...It's like reading a choose your own adventure book, I dunno.
Hahaha, hi fellow aphant! I am happy you can enjoy it, tho! Honestly, I would be what your friends expect, for I already zone out when I have to listen to someone reading a book 🥲
I need prompts. I write and I need writing prompts. To do photography, I need visual prompts.
Imagine if I did art I would need prompts. Something to activate that part of the brain.
I cannot spell a Fantasia but I have it.
Extremely very autistic. With all the trimmings. ✌️
So, legit question here (as in I mean no snark and am genuinely curious): how does that work with regards to your art? Since you’re not picturing it ahead of time, does it just flow directly onto the page?
I swear, when I first realized that this was a thing that existed (and that I had) it was supposed to be a really small portion of humans that were estimated to have this. It seems like I actually see a lot more people than I would have expected also having this.
I've had the same feeling! I went from thinking it's just how it is for everyone, to realizing it was a condition I have, to realizing a lot of people seem to also have it.
I was 60 when I discovered I was mind blind - I always assumed "imagine" meant ~make up in your mind~ but it was just imaginary, it wasn't real.
When discussing my new learning with my kids (all adults), I discover ~mom I can play a movie in my mind~
... what ...?
