Hi! I'm Leah. I study sanctions, war and dictators professionally and Fungi personally. I'm a terrible millennial, prefer typewriters to computers, and am an insufferable optimist. I'm glad you're here.
I've been part of a group advocating for the development of a homeless and transitional shelter in my region for quite some time. It's an existing complex. The grant has been handled. It's a net positive. Reader, I cannot tell you how exhausting the vitriol is from these Christian opponents.
I say this as a Bible studying, hippie that loves the absolute crap out of Jesus (and Habakkuk, but that's a different discussion). If only these people realized how much more in common they have with the houseless in our communities than the billionaires on our TV screens...Lordy.
I promise I won't turn this into a rant space, I'm just so disheartened sometimes at how ugly people can be to one another based on bias, stereotyping and prejudice. I hate it. It won't deter my work, but I really, really hate it.
My husband stopped in to buy a battery for my watch earlier today. I've left an impression, apparently. ๐
I thought my fellow #FungiFriends would be amused.
I am so touched by your kindness and love. I got a lot of support from the Bluesky community when I was able to finally talk about it. I firmly believe in humans and our capacity for love, kindness and compassion. I think we are very much all worth fighting for.

I relate to this whole thread. I have severe anxiety, and I spiraled earlier this summer. I needed help like never before. It shocked people that the bubbly, optimistic, solve everything for everyone girl was brutally depressed. Welp. I was. You're not alone at all. You're worth fighting for.
Hi. I was away for a week. Hope everyone is doing well.
There are people who believe the reasons for my absence are shameful and disqualifying for full participation on public life.
Those people can snort my taint.
If you need help, get help. Donโt wait to be in crisis. You can feel better.

You are such an important and talented voice. I'm excited to see all the amazing things you achieve in the future to go along with all of your much deserved current success.
I feel like this question should be asked for more often than it is. I'm obsessed with dinosaurs and have trouble picking a favorite but I absolutely love the Ankylosaurus and its armored cousins like the Kunbarrasaurus and Antarctopelta. Dino-armor is beyond amazing.
The cacuzza and pasta dish that my large Italian husband is making is going to taste absolutely amazing for several reasons, but most importantly because he is dancing and singing Louis Prima while cooking it. ๐ฎ๐น
There's never been a better day to stop generating engagement and ad revenue for the idiot Nazi transphobe manchild. He's told you what he's doing with his money.
Awesome! It's been a Sicilian history summer. I've researched my Haitian roots quite a bit (my birth mother). I needed to focus on the other side for a while.
I will certainly check. I am learning all about my family and thus far Ruffinos, Ferraras, Marcellos and Impastatos are my most popular branches. I know very little about my father's side because I didn't really know him (yay, estrangement!).
That's exactly what she said. My grandmother on the Sicilian side (I'm half Sicilian/half Haitian, all creole) would regularly use "gagootz" as an insult, and I found that super clever. Like...you GOURD! ๐๐ญ
Today was a very lovely day.
I got to spend some time with some lovely people touring the Sicilian Heritage Museum. These pictures are just a small sampling of the cool things I saw. I look very forward to further researching my roots.

I was also beyond excited that my tour guide sent me home with these cacuzza squashes picked from behind the museum. I LOVE them and haven't had any in years.

Haha, it would totally fit! This area was founded by Sicilians and the drive out there was FULL of bathtub Marys. When I was Catholic (and even now) I found them to be one of the more humorous statues.
I'm spending time at the Sicilian heritage museum today (way more pictures to come) and I OF COURSE got side tracked by this beautiful thing.

I remain skeptical of social media and the like, and find myself unplugging more and more, however I do remain grateful for zoom church when my TMJ flares really badly.
I am actually pleasantly surprised by the couple of DMs that I've gotten here. People can still be nice and friendly and not super weird when they want to be.
My Google photos memories has me realizing that, though I love my spring/summer cottage vibe, I'm ready for the fall spider and light up web to return.
