If I had a nickel for every time Bendis wrote a poorly plotted event that negatively impacted a famous female Avenger's public perception and gave sexist CHUDs plenty of ammunition for years to come, I'd have two nickels...
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
Oh boy, this storyline. When I was a kid the Avengers were my favorite super hero team, and when I was a teen Bendis was my favorite writer. And this storyline was the biggest punch in the gut, I'm pretty sure this was the first time I ever read a storyline and thought "This is insulting."
One of the things that makes this storyline so frustrating is that Bendis used a similar concept in his Powers book, with a hero so powerful they become detached from reality and end up causing widespread devastation. He tried to do a similar thing here but fumbled it so badly by comparison.
