been thinking a lot about going back to school to become a CAD operator. I've learned so much about CAD in the last year just from teaching myself and working on projects. It would let me live a lot more comfortably than I do now. But I also worry if i do, I'll just never make art anymore?

I always manage to open social media on portfolio day despite only opening social media a couple times a month. Weird how ghag works.

And while we're at it -- did you know that the software that Dave McCarty uses to count the votes is proprietary and he won't show anyone else the code? Did you know that he can see who voted for what? It's no wonder that he doesn't want to decouple the Hugos from individual Worldcons.

Their (paraphrased) response was that they would like to rescind the invitation but that Ben Yallow--the co-chair--felt very strongly that you could not rescind an invitation. So, when I see in the report that the Chinese members of the committee weren't cc'd on the dossier emails? Not surprised.

Dave's (paraphrased) response was that he couldn't make that recommendation because he needed to honor their culture. Fast forward to a conversation with the Chinese members of the Chengdu team at Chicon, where I made the same recommendation.

This is upsetting but not, at this point, surprising. In 2022, I had a loooooong conversation with Dave McCarty in the bar at Eastercon in which I, & other folks, tried to convince him to advise the Chengdu team to rescind the GOH invitation to Lukianenko.
